Always on the lookout for weather phenomenon because I teach it part-time at the local community college. This is the fire plume from the Sand Fire currently burning in Los Angeles county. At the top of the smoke pillar is what is called a pyrocumulus cloud. Acquired Friday afternoon/evening through the very dirty bathroom window. Other shot is my own personal "cyclist coming toward me focus tracking test". Very impromptu. Tracking worked well enough. Last shot is just a landscape on the top of Mount Piņos, where I went Sunday to get out of the desert heat and fire smoke filled air. Pyrocumulus and cyclists shot with a D FA 28-105/3.5-5.6, landscape with a Tokina AT-X Pro 280 28-80/2.8. Nothing too impressive about the Tokina shot. Just wanted to see how it performed on the K-1. JPEGs straight out of the camera, just resized in GIMP for web posting.

NOTE: the "View Pictuer EXIF" attached to the landscape image incorrectly says that the lens used to acquire the image is a Sigma 17-70. That is incorrect. Not possible as I don't own, nor ever have owned that lens. It was the Tokina 'cause I lugged that heavy beast all over the mountain Sunday afternoon and my arm was pretty worn out by the time I got back to the car.

Shot with the 15-30mm with a 145mm Nisi 10 stopper

Nicely done. Sometimes what a camera can capture is better than what you can see.

I have been curious about the XS and K-1. Is this image cropped or FF? Sure looks good to me.

Yes, thanks, appreciated. I've also seen what LeRolls is doing... gorgeous. I could try to improve on the framing if I have the opportunity. One thing for sure: the camera and lens delivers !

Thanks, and true. Although sometimes the reverse is more true especially while conveying size...

No thanks needed for well-earned praise. I agree about the reverse. A big waterfall done with a slow shutter speed becomes something special that you never did or could see. On the other hand a drippy fountain, the sound, the drops suspended in air, the little splashes, or a field of grass waving in the breeze, or a static subject such as the Grand Canyon or the Alps. maybe the the frozen moment in the pixels will capture some of mood, but not all of it. I saw many pictures of the Parthenon before visiting it, but it is different to be there.

So right! This captured the moment this cub challenged her mama but the sights and sounds of what happened next could only be truly experienced if you were where I was. Mama taught her a lesson she won't likely forget.......knowing raccoon cubs.......for a day or two!

Last night I got a few decent shots with the 540 flash......I got the settings right this time and the results are better than before by far. The K1 will focus in very low light, it was very dark out there. The biggest problem is that you can't see anything in the viewfinder and have to guess at composition.

"Yep, looks like a pizza down there....pepperoni?"

"There was a pizza here? ....who got the pizza and left me this dog food?"

Yep...I know you have teeth and they are plenty sharp!

Regards!
