Fantastic work from fs999 as always!

This was taken with the Rokinon 14mm. I set the camera to interval shooting, 15s exposure every 20s. This was the best shot, by far. Wish the fireball had positioned itself better, but what are you gonna do?

I wish I'd tried the Astrotracer and maybe tried a 3 min exposure to see if I could get more than one, but they really seemed few and far between. Of 600 images, about 10 of them had meteors in them. You can also see the Milky Way, Pleiades, and M31 Andromeda galaxy in this shot.

Nice work. At 14mm you could have used a 30 second exposure with little or no deformation of the stars. Astrotracer is very helpful but while it would hold the stars steady it would smear out the meteor streaks. They may be fast enough that it wouldn't matter but I didn't want to risk it, but 30 seconds is well within the rule of 500 ( Maximum Exposure = 500/(focal length x crop factor)).

Thank you! At web size you would not notice it, but I have tried the K-1 with the 14mm at several exposures and some small amount of trailing is evident at 20s, especially at the edges of the frame. And you are right, the Astrotracer might not have worked. I hadn't thought it through.

I can confirm no smearing of meteors with astrotracer - they're way too fast... Foreground... no such luck.

The Flickr post looks good Lori - smearing at the edges is common for ultra wide angle lenses. you might try a star stacking program to put your meteors in one frame / boost intensity.

My experience is the same. I tend to stick with the 300 rule to avoid smears.

The corner smears with Astrotracer could be COMA, not actual motion blur.... As I see them without astro tracer as well.

Can the K-1 be a street camera?

Sure. Here it is from today walking a couple of blocks of the hipster suburb of Fitzroy with just the DA*55 f1.4.

Da*55 in FF mode

3 weeks playing with my new toy and I'm so glad that the Da*55 can be used in full frame. It was my favorite on the K-30.
These were taken at a recent workshop in Melbourne.

I bought it off eBay weeks ago to be the standard prime on the K-1, Elfius. I knew its beautiful rendering from a couple of years ago when in a workshop another Pentaxian lent it to me for the session. Edit: That was you!!!! 😀

f2 is a good place for it to be. :-)

The lady in red is impressive. A lot of personality in the face and posture. A person to be reckoned with, not fooled with.

I like the bull terrier looking so mellow. I could believe he'd taken advice from a cat on how to chill.
