Wonderful shot! Great lighting too!

Things have been slow on the Cheater Branches, so I spiced it up a little with some peanut butter. Didn't take but minutes until this little guy was enticed by the aroma of fresh peanut butter!

"Wow! ....the Cheater Branch is oozing peanut butter....a dream come true!"

"This is delicious stuff!"

"I'm gonna get every last bit of it!"

"It's worth the risk to go out on a limb for this stuff!"

"It sprouted a peanut...how lucky can I get!"

They certainly look omnidirectional. Pretty hard to sneak up on one of these from any direction except directly behind.

Went out in the garden an hour or so back. Many things growing vigorously that I do not remember planting. No matter. Robber flies are generally willing to hold a pose if they are feeding, so I was able to set up the tripod at a proper distance, but still used flash for most shots (all those taken by natural light were wind-blurred). Shallow DOF is annoying, but with the wind motion there was no chance to get a stacking series.

Went out to take some pictures of shore birds. Last few days they are coming in decent numbers. There were few of us shooting and from nowhere came Peregrin Falcon chasing birds and spoiled the party. In the split of second shore birds were gone. This Peregrin Falcon done this few times here. They got to eat too

Luckily there was this Great Blue Heron doing some stretching with the wings and some Blue-winged Teal taking nap.

That is a dandy Heron series! I've got some in the queue from the other day to post... now I'm not so sure I want mine next to yours.

I've been contemplating some more reach than my Tamron 70-200mm w/ 1.4x can give me, and the old SMC 500 4.5 you are using was on my list to consider, along with the Bigma that Rupert uses. Since I tend to hand hold or use my monopod a lot, I was thinking the Bigma might be the better choice, or find a 400 5.6 in some variety (Pentax, Tokina, Sigma?) but I'm just not sure I will like the ergonomics. How do you find the SMC 500 to use?

No need to mount a macro lens and go out in the hot humid muggy atmosphere. Just sit at your desk and sip your coffee while pointing the Bigma out the windows and firing away!
