Sort of Off-Topic maybe....but I have a Tammy 17-50 on order at that bargain price of $299. Has anyone got any samples from this lens on the K1? I know it is a crop lens, but that is fine with me...I'd just like to know what to expect on the K1.....curious?

Thanks!

On my way to town I took the K1+Bigma and tried a few FF shots. I was impressed with the operation of the K1 and the performance of the Bigma.....very accurate color, plenty sharp and quick to focus accurately.

There are six in this small herd...they are all friendly except this guy...don't get too close to him!

He found this on the fence wire and licked on it for 5-6 minutes....

I was worried because it looked like a damn pair of old panties, but fortunately it was just a plastic bag that must have had something in it he liked?

May try to get out more often like this......beats the squirrels ...and poor ol' Charlie!

Regards!
I had an awesome copy of that lens, traded to a forum member... I LOVED that lens on my K5, it was bright, sharp and contrasty, and wouldnt hardly flare even if you tried to force it to... but I hate to break it to you...It vignettes badly on the K-1, if I remember correctly, it was almost like a circular fisheye with a round central image surrounded by black. It should be stellar in crop mode, but I'm not sure if it covered enough for even trying square mode 1:1, maybe someone who still has one can chime in.

Hey, I love the Crop Mode.....so it should work well for me on the K1. Sounds like it might be a useful lens for my particular needs. Thanks for the info!

@LeRolls ....Damn it, off to buy more colored pencils and a gray card to help him get the skintones just right. She is lovely...but so overdressed for squirrel viewing!

Regards!

So, I got this DA*300, and I can't seem to put it down... (they say the first step is to admit you have a problem)

Pentax K-1 smc PENTAX-DA* 300mm F4 ED [IF] SDM ƒ/13.0 300.0 mm 1/250 iso400

Pentax K-1 smc PENTAX-DA* 300mm F4 ED [IF] SDM ƒ/4.5 300.0 mm 1/250 iso400

Sorry about the PG content, look away if you are squeamish.
(No Rupert, tell Otis it is not a baby squirrel, just a distant cousin without the fluffy tail) Maybe you won't feel so bad about Frederick cooking little birdies after seeing this one. Call it therapy. :-)

Pentax K1 - Pentax SCMP HD-FA15-30mm f/2.8 @ 15mm ISO 160 f/11 1/15th
Stunning sky and picture, awesome !

***************

It's always difficult to post some pictures after seeing all those amazing shots in this thread, but for the love of the K1 I dare to post

5 different lenses in very different contexts.

1- Pentax M50mm /f2, a cheap lens I couldnt locate until recently. It has some nice bokeh on K1.
2- Tamron 90mm /f2,8 Macro - This is a superb lens on all Pentax bodies I got, I was curious to see how it goes with the K1 and it's perfectly usable.
3- Pentax D-FA 24-70mm /f2,8 - Even under very low light this lens still focus quickly and accuratly. With K1 DR you can recover even a plain dark shot. Im still puzzled by the missing red AF point illuminating when AF is confirmed though..
4- Pentax D*FA 70-200mm /f2,8 - I was hired to take pictures of Ambi Subramaniam, a young and gifted Indian Classical violin player. When I came in the people from the venue refused any pictures during the concert, even during the encore. So I did shoot during the soundcheck, it was really confortable to shoot freely for 20 mins...but the musicians were not dressed with traditional clothes, I was pissed So, at the very end (last minute really) of the performance I pointed my K1+heavyweight Champion at the stage and did a couple pictures in less than 5 seconds...and hide my stuff right away .
Too bad I was seated in a very bad angle, the Mike Angle...dammit ! and to be honest I couldnt see my selected AF point in the viewfinder, hit the AF mode button on the side of the camera, aimed at Ambi's head and start shooting as soon as his head was clear of the microphone.
Ill have a complete set of pictures on my site soon.
5- Pentax smc 20-35mm /f4 - Walking around with my tripod on a very boring day, trying to get used to long exposure and panorama type composition. This day was very sad and I think the pictures describes this sadness.

Peace,

Rain For Rent

Every day I come to this forum to check out the great and varied talent here.

Mine not so much, but thought some might be interested in seeing "Rain For Rent" on lettuce. I know it's not a very aesthetic shot, but it was one of the first shots with my K-1/28-105 last month and it says a lot about the area I live in. Who would guess that agriculture is king in a place that averages less than three inches of rainfall a year.

Need to do some focus fine tuning,
what is the best way to do it?

I can't see the exif data for the last shot to confirm my suspicions that you had you aperture set at F2.8 or there abouts to get more light but in doing so you've created a very shallow DOF hence very little being in focus. If you use a tripod for that same shot you could use F16 to F22 increasing the DOF which will have more in focus and by setting the camera function to "Bulb" and using a cable switch keep the shutter open for a second or two you'll get all the light you need. Hope this helps.
