DFA 15-30, 2-shot Panorama at 15mm. The stream was flowing too fast & deep for a tripod, so my wife sat on my legs as I reached out to get as close to the water as possible. You really appreciate the K-1's SR with a shot like this - 1/4 sec shutter !!

Compared to a crop using the DA TC1.4 with the DA55-300PLM doesn't give us more resolution and isn't very useful - this we can read in some posts. So I thought I could do some captures to see what I'm thinking about it.

I set K-1 to APS-C mode, the lens to 300mm + DA TC1.4x. That gives me 420mm focal length and the very narrow angle of view of a theoretical 630mm FF lens in FF mode - incredible ~3.15° x 2.08°!

If you turn on liveview 100% pixel level you'll realize what leverage the smallest camera motion gets when you just touch the lens' quick shift ring.

To get the smallest amount of shake I put the camera on tripod, for precise focusing set it to liveview, to minimize shutter shake influence set ES mode (electronic shutter) and use a cable release.

The wheather was bad, so I had to go to ISO 800 or 1600. The images were taken through a window pane. Unfortunately not perfect conditions.

I donīt know if a crop instead of using the TC would have given me better or same resolution. Anyway - I like the results and using the TC helps composing the image while photographing.

K-1 - APC mode - (DA55-300PLM+DA TC1.4x)@420 - ISO1600 - 1/200s - f/9.5 (open aperture)

K-1 - APC mode - (DA55-300PLM+DA TC1.4x)@420 - ISO1600 - 1/200s - f/9.5 (open aperture)

K-1 - APC mode - (DA55-300PLM+DA TC1.4x)@420 - ISO800 - 1/200s - f/9.5 (open aperture)

K-1 - APC mode - (DA55-300PLM+DA TC1.4x)@420 - ISO800 - 1/50s - f/11 - pixel shift resolution

This is where the K-1 really shines for me, capturing all the fine structure, looking so seemingly effortless. Back on film, it was a long jouney before I arrived at and appreciated a similar look - e.g. using Kodachrome 64 in less than full sun. Not that it would require the FA limiteds, but I just noticed they seem to fit particularly well - whereas I messed up last night not recognizing that I posted a series of underexposed shots. I''ll need to edit those.
Thank you, Jens. I really feel that one of the benefits of full frame is being able to push/manipulate images without them looking "pushed." It really felt with the K3 (I still shoot with it some) that it was a lot more prone to developing halos/noise in the shadows, etc. Particularly with the pixel shift feature, the K-1 is a dream in that regard.

Another usage of the DA55-300PLM+DA TC1.4x as a "macro lens" in K-1 Square mode with great separation ...

K-1 on tripod - Square mode - (DA55-300+DA TC1.4x)@420 - ISO 100 - 1/50s - f/11

K-1 on tripod - FF mode - (DA55-300+DA TC1.4x)@420 - ISO 100 - 1/125s - f/9.5 (open aperature) - square crop in post

The arrival of Spring seemed a good occasion to get out on my bike and take some photos with my long neglected K-1. Mostly street-ish shots of people enjoying the season. It was a joy.

The A-H Sprite brings back memories. Had one when I was in college. Only a few of its contemporary cars were more basic*. Mine was nicknamed "the red frog."

* For those not familiar with this most elementary of vehicles: 1) no external door handles; 2) no windows (window-like pieces could be attached along the top of each door frame with a pair of thumb-screws); 3) the soft top did not fold down, it dismantled and was stowed in the boot; 4) no boot/trunk lid, you tipped the seats forward and stuffed whatever into the back; 5) to turn on the heater in cold weather, you tipped up the hood and located a brass thumb-screw valve and opened it; 6) control of hot air inside was managed by a two little doors one each side of the transmission hump approximately opposite driver or passenger knee, flip open for warm air on your legs, flip closed to direct more air onto the windshield/screen (from the driver's seat I could reach the heater door on the passenger side). The four cylinder engine displaced just under one liter and provided me with something over 35mpg. There were a few vehicles back then that had equivalent or simpler amenities, but not very many.

Not the best K-1 shots but hey I was photobombed.
With the Tamron 70-200.

Good thing I had just put fresh batteries in the flash.
