Those were True remarks......and you are most welcome! Thanks for the information and samples. I am thinking I might like that lens and a TC to match, and have been for some time. I shoot mostly at 500mm with my Bigma, and a TC would give me the extra reach I often desire. My only problem is deciding if I am "lens worthy" for such a purchase. I asked Mrs Rupert and she said she was still stuck on deciding if I was "just plain worthy"?
It is clear from your description of her response that Mrs Rupert did not actually say no to such a purchase. So, in my humble and thankfully geographically distant opinion, you should consider that permission to proceed. The members of Pentax forums would no doubt endorse such a decision.

A pair of Rainbow Lorikeets in my back yard. Worth pointing out that this is another shot with the Sigma 500 f4.5 APO DG EX and Sigma 1.4x TC. Beautiful combination with excellent sharpness, no distortions, lots of wide open aperture and unbeatable reach.

I had to do it... a cross post just to prove my "Femme Fatale" can do subtle light backgrounds too.

In advance - sorry for being a bit off topic with my intro.

Today I visited a special event - the „19. Internationale Fürstenfelder Naturfototage“, a yearly mid may nature photography event in Fürstenfeldbruck near Munich, Germany. At this event the winning photographs of the international nature photography competition „Glanzlichter“ are shown.

This time I got goose bumps when I saw the prints of the phantastic photographs that are taken around the globe and won prices in their categories . If you are interested in these pictures you can take a look here (select category on the left hand side, category names in english). Of course the small internet representations are by far not that impressive compared to the prints, but they show what kind of photographs can be seen (a klick on the thumbnail a bigger ~ 800px representation is shown).

The event days are accompanied by courses about photography, a photo equipment market where I had a look at the Pentax KP and a bird of prey demonstration where manufacturers demostrate their equipment and people can take photographs. Here are some pictures I made with my K-1 and the DA55-300PLM.

The first image shows a photographer testing equipment that's installed by gear manufacturers. There's a battery of such installations, installed mainly by tripod, camera and optics manufacturers.

K-1 - FF Square Mode - DA55-300PLM@260 - ISO1000, f/9, 1/500s

K-1 - APSC Mode - DA55-300PLM@300, significant additional pp crop - ISO100, f/6.3, 1/500s

K-1 - APSC Mode - DA55-300PLM@300 - ISO100, f/6.3, 1/200s

K-1 - FF Square Mode - DA55-300PLM@300 - ISO640, f/6.3, 1/500s

First- That is another great shot you just posted!

Second- I am not sure if I should take your advice and risk never posting another squirrel again, due to my permanent absence when Mrs Rupert finds out and eliminates me...or just go for it?

Sometimes you have to take a little risk....

"If this sap spout erupts like a volcano, it will blow my head off just like it did to old Chucky a while back."

One question.....how much IQ do you lose with the TC.....noticeable or barely noticeable?

Regards!

( If I do buy one, how many squirrel haters will rat me out to Mrs Rupert to get rid of me and those noxious squirrels...any guess?)

Strange birdie...but I like him!

FS......Look at that shot below by the Voice...see that blue object in the 2nd shot? That is not a marble hung on a string.....you see, that's how you do it for real.....give it a try!

Mid afternoon mixed light gives mixed results....not great, not awful, just mixed. If a friend of mine I help out all the time would lend me his 560 Pentax I might get some better shots? I'd sure do it for him......I'd let him use one of my lenses in return.....maybe the 18-55 would be nice for him to practice with?

Kinda lost some detail somewhere?

Same time, same location, better detail?

Regards!
