This is just from the surface with a little cheap gel holder/diffuser laying on the ice with a hat over it to cut leaks and glare. I thought an upside down metal mixing bowl over the flash might work well too and reflect leaks back down. I agree I need more coverage or maybe a smaller patch of bubbles. I cropped a few out that were too hot too so I need to distribute better.
I thought about digging too and that may be the key but I wouldn't want to hit water which can seep up through cracks. I don't have a CPL for my UWAs so that would be harder to try, plus I'd lose a little flash power.
Maybe I should get myself a little ice fishing shack to hang out in while I do all this...
I need to concentrate on other photo projects but I'll revisit this as I can. Thanks for all the enthusiasm!
Edit to add: Maybe I could borrow a fisherman's gas powered auger. A manual hole might be a chore!
