Steve & Jessica;
As mentioned earlier, I discovered this little hideaway from the cheers, laughter and splashes of the canyoneers 'warming up' (I presume) for the Empress Falls abseil descent.
This couple watched patiently from the side and then more some as I took my tripod shots seen earlier.
The were ever so patient so whilst everything was still set up I asked them if they would like a shot taken (to which they obviously obliged).
I knew what I wanted to achieve here but I had never attempted such a shot. The idea was to get them into the same shot/perspective as before, shift my focus towards them (and nothing else, no panning of the tripod etc), change ISO and shutter speed to accommodate a quicker shutter release so that there was no motion blur from them.
Then the plan was to remove the quicker shutter release waterfall shot they received and replace with a a better edited shot of the scene.
For a first attempt I think it's ok. I've never really tried this kind of edit before. When masking I realised it was important to not 'delete' any of their shadows otherwise they look too superimposed.
There is a massive difference between the pixel shifted shot and them two who just got a single frame, I find pixel shift produces stunning results on some lenses turning a meh sharpness into a very dramatically improved shot. I think this can be seen between the difference in sharpness between the two and the rock they are sitting on.
It's the sorta shot that will pass on instagram but perhaps elsewhere not so much.
I think perhaps a better blend would be to use a non pixel shifted shot of the scene (which I think I have somewhere), and then stack that with them.. or simply even just focusing on the water and nothing (therefore needing to only mask around Steve and where his body meets the water).
Still I like to upload this one for transparency and record my learning curves.
Steve & Jessica (v2);
Similar to before, the only masking however is the water fall and pool, therefore the only masking at the subjects is Steve's right leg/shin.
The overall picture has more noise but has a better balance of sharpness than the earlier stack.
Comments welcome.
