Steve & Jessica;

As mentioned earlier, I discovered this little hideaway from the cheers, laughter and splashes of the canyoneers 'warming up' (I presume) for the Empress Falls abseil descent.
This couple watched patiently from the side and then more some as I took my tripod shots seen earlier.
The were ever so patient so whilst everything was still set up I asked them if they would like a shot taken (to which they obviously obliged).

I knew what I wanted to achieve here but I had never attempted such a shot. The idea was to get them into the same shot/perspective as before, shift my focus towards them (and nothing else, no panning of the tripod etc), change ISO and shutter speed to accommodate a quicker shutter release so that there was no motion blur from them.
Then the plan was to remove the quicker shutter release waterfall shot they received and replace with a a better edited shot of the scene.

For a first attempt I think it's ok. I've never really tried this kind of edit before. When masking I realised it was important to not 'delete' any of their shadows otherwise they look too superimposed.
There is a massive difference between the pixel shifted shot and them two who just got a single frame, I find pixel shift produces stunning results on some lenses turning a meh sharpness into a very dramatically improved shot. I think this can be seen between the difference in sharpness between the two and the rock they are sitting on.

It's the sorta shot that will pass on instagram but perhaps elsewhere not so much.

I think perhaps a better blend would be to use a non pixel shifted shot of the scene (which I think I have somewhere), and then stack that with them.. or simply even just focusing on the water and nothing (therefore needing to only mask around Steve and where his body meets the water).

Still I like to upload this one for transparency and record my learning curves.

Steve & Jessica (v2);

Similar to before, the only masking however is the water fall and pool, therefore the only masking at the subjects is Steve's right leg/shin.

The overall picture has more noise but has a better balance of sharpness than the earlier stack.

Comments welcome.
Great work. Encouraging to me to see what can be done.

As lilacs prepare to bloom . . .

Our daffodils are beginning to blossom, and the lilac buds are swelling.

An exercise with the Pentax K-1 and Pentax-A 135mm f 2.8 @ 2.8.

I love the green and magenta tones in the first image.

A lovely image there K-Amps. The soft light creates a really dreamy feel.

Captured a couple of years ago at a local Shakesperean festival using the D-FA 150-450.

Thank you, I fear it can be done much much better tho, it was my very first time and trying something like this, and if they weren't such a lovely couple waiting patiently I wouldn't have offered or even been able to have a demo model/s

When the opportunity allows I will try this again with perhaps a less wide angle lens, sharper lens and the subject more central to the image.

portrait attempt

Tas, your last shots at the motocross are terrific.
LeRolls, that water shot Christopher is really cool, love that one. A horizontal layout would not look so interesting & cool.
BruceBanner, The sharpness of version 2 has my favor, fantastic work.
Eric, You mentioned that this lens should be good for portraits. Here is my first attempt at a portrait shot with the 645 A 120/4 macro lens. This fella is my very good friend & photo body Thomas. The photo was taken in his Natural Food & Herbal Remedies store with standard overhead lighting. Was not the best conditions and I did not nail the focus but it certainly shows me the capabilities of this lens. I think the aperture was @ 5.6, but not sure.
Frederic, My friend Tom sorta reminds me of you, very good sense of humor, devilish grin and he is the one that likes your photos...
Best Regards, Bob

I want this lens! I'm practising all this month with all my lenses MF only, to see if I think I could manage it

Hi Bruce, I thought the same and almost bought a cheap old 135mm to practice with. in reality I found it quite easy to focus even at f2 especially with the K-1's audible aide. I've only been using it a while but I have some more pics here. It's a fantastic lens, by far the sharpest lens I've ever tested. It's quite heavy though.
