My Garden (FA 31 limited/pixel shift)

Victoria (DFA 70-200)

The second photo is one of the first I've taken with our new K1 II. The Exif is edited to say K-1 to help Lightroom edit it.

Norm, Love the fern pentagon. Geometrical shapes in nature are always fun to find.

That is looking pretty good for iso6400 indoors Vincent! The thing I've noticed even with my Mk I is that iso6400 in full sun outdoors is a very different story than iso6400 indoors with mixed light & shadow.

I'm lacking in the technical verbiage to express it properly, but I "think" it has something to do with "pushing" to make that iso6400 work indoors with the mixed light, versus "pulling" to make that iso6400 work outdoors in full sun, maybe because we want some crazy fast shutter speed or fstop to make the outdoor photo work.

On flickr at 100% I see the color noise a little more pronounced, but nothing objectionable. In ACR, on the noise reduction tab, dragging Color slider from the default 25 to about 45 would probably eliminate that shadow color noise altogether, but thanks for posting as-is so we cans see what it can do & thanks for sharing your K1 MkII experiences,
Eric

Unfortunately it's cliche shot that Tess (and everyone and his uncle) has taken. I'm still trying to perfect the normhead version, but what's out there is hard to beat.

Another attempt at BMIF (Bug Macro in Flight) I may be pushing my luck with the DFA100WR, as I was not very comfortable with the working distance as I was the DA*300mm
You probably won't believe this, but these are sequential numbered shots with only a couple of throw away's in-between the last two.

smc PENTAX-D FA MACRO 100mm F2.8 WR ƒ/5.6 100.0 mm 1/500 iso100

smc PENTAX-D FA MACRO 100mm F2.8 WR ƒ/5.6 100.0 mm 1/500 iso100

smc PENTAX-D FA MACRO 100mm F2.8 WR ƒ/5.6 100.0 mm 1/500 iso100

I dunno why, but this last one made me laugh, so I kept it. It looks like he crashed and is having trouble getting over the top with his hind legs flailing.

Just about all photographs are cliche shots by now. Still doesn't stop me from trying to best Ansel Adams shot of the Grand Tetons with the Snake River in the foreground every time I drive past the spot. You would need a chainsaw to clear some of the trees out of the way to exactly duplicate the shot. Kind of frowned upon for some reason.

In 1991 we were out there and noticed a road side pull off. Pulled in and got out of the minivan to stretch our legs a bit. Went to the overlook and it was WOW! This is the spot!. Not some location that you had to get to after a two day hike, but a simple roadside pull off. Just go to 43°45'13.79"N, 110°37'23.72"W on Google Earth and there it is.

Erictator,

Are these AF or MF? Impressive either way.

Looks like you pasted two North coordinates!

There was some interesting conversation a couple of months ago how "the masses" are posing a threat to the locations or the subjects of "clichι photographs", like the so-called "most photographed tree in the world" and such.

I went to Puglia (Apulia) a couple of years ago and a very beautiful natural pool near the sea, called "Grotta della Poesia" (you can find it variously translated to "Grotto of Poetry", "Cave of Poetry", "Caves of Poetry") was literally overrun with tourists mainly doing stoopid things, i.e. selfies and dive bombing from ~3 m in quite shallow water.
Just a dozen years before it was almost deserted.

Give me a place no one has ever seen before, or has seen but decided to disregard: I'd rather photograph that than "what everyone else is doing".

Definitely my preference too. Always looking for the "other shot".

Great question! These are AF, and not CAF, but my own concoction:

I have found if I flutter my finger on the shutter release to the half press position up/down/up/down as I am tracking a subject in the Select-9 zone (which I may move the Sel9 grouping slightly for composition) and watch the AF points that light up, I can choose when to trip the shutter and be fairly certain of an in focus shot. This way I am forcing the AF to reconsider what it is looking at on my own terms, rather than relying on a logarithm to track what it thinks I want. The DFA100WR is not even a remotely fast focusing lens, because of the long macro throws, but, once you are in the neighborhood of in focus, re-acquiring focus is a simple enough task as you flutter the shutter release along.

PSA: Concentrating on focus, and trying not getting stung by a YellowJacket do seem to be conflicting tasks... try at your own risk.

Fixed it. I have decided to fire my proofreader (myself) but in order to soften the blow I will give them a very generous severance package.
