Never will you guess where we were driving when we saw this herd off to the south.

Never will you guess where we were driving when we stopped to photograph these back-lit bison.

I have both. I used the 300 for several year before buying the 150-450, I now it well and I love it.
Yet it stayed in the bag since I bought the 150-450

A few low light samples:

1/60sec - f/6.3 - ISO6400 - 450mm

1/30sec - f/4.5 - ISO3200 - 220mm

1/13sec - f/6.3 - ISO1600 - 360mm

Then, when you do have the light...

1/250sec - f/7.1 - ISO1600 - 450mm

1/80sec - f/7.1 - ISO800 - 360mm

1/250sec - f/7.1 - ISO1600 - 450mm

1/1000sec - f/7.1 - ISO800 - 450mm

If you want to play with some RAWs, I can upload a few. The rainbow lorikeet shot was extremely underexposed, it's a nice shadow recovery example.
You can see a lot more birds pictures with the K1 & 150-450 in this gallery .

Sorry for your wallet, but that lens deserves it .
Wow, thanks so much! Those are exactly what I needed to see. Dang, do you work for Ricoh? I think you just made them some money... my poor wallet. Heh.
I "think" I'm going to try and sell some stuff to help fund it. Y'all may see my Tamron 400mm F4 show up in the classifieds soon. I hate to let it go, it is as sharp (maybe even sharper) as the DA*300mm but my aging eyes need the autofocus. Thanks again for the post, that really did it for me.

Eric, love the 1st & 3rd photos. I will have to take some time to post some before & after shots taken under different conditions with the 150-450 lens to provide you some samples.
Best Regards, Bob
Thanks Bobby! Timauton beat you to it and has me convinced, but I'll always enjoy seeing what you post! . Yeah, 1 and 3 for me too

Shooting nearly wide open, the DA*300 still kicks butt... this is the one feature I wonder a little about on the DFA 150-450mm... is how will I handle low or mixed light stuff. It's wierd, I see peoples posts, but until I have to process the RAW files myself, there is just that shadow (pun definitely intended) of doubt.
This one !

After looking at the EXIF date of your last several postings, I am have come the the conclusion that you were not in Massachusetts. I'm thinking of some state between Nevada and Colorado.

I hope Utah how I arrived at this conclusion.

Candy Rock

I like rocks. This looks like some kind of elaborate confectionary but it came out an undersea volcano in Phoenix 10-20 million years ago.
