Nice!

That rock looks more metamorphic to me with those veins of quartz. Sea water percolating through fractures in the volcano can dissolve the minerals in the hardened lava and then those minerals can recrystallize where the water reaches cooler parts of the volcano. The dark rock might contain some interesting metal ores.

Must you talk hydrothermal in the midst of a contest?

Yes, Photoptimist you are exactly right. I was just speaking quickly. In a way it is all volcanic or at least starts with the magma. There are a lot of such water generated spots in the cliffs all around here. Thanks for commenting.

In the early 20th century and especially during WWII miners hacked lots of small tunnels into these veins in the mountains in and around Phoenix. There was some mercury production (so we have a Dreamy Draw area) but little else was profitable.

That bridge from the other side in that state. So many man-made structures can be an eyesore out in beautiful country, but bridges can be graceful, dramatic, and a welcome-useful visual addition to a picture.

Has the makings of a great print on metallic paper.

I have both. I used the 300 for several year before buying the 150-450, I now it well and I love it.
Yet it stayed in the bag since I bought the 150-450

A few low light samples:

1/60sec - f/6.3 - ISO6400 - 450mm

1/30sec - f/4.5 - ISO3200 - 220mm

1/13sec - f/6.3 - ISO1600 - 360mm

Then, when you do have the light...

1/250sec - f/7.1 - ISO1600 - 450mm

1/80sec - f/7.1 - ISO800 - 360mm

1/250sec - f/7.1 - ISO1600 - 450mm

1/1000sec - f/7.1 - ISO800 - 450mm

If you want to play with some RAWs, I can upload a few. The rainbow lorikeet shot was extremely underexposed, it's a nice shadow recovery example.
You can see a lot more birds pictures with the K1 & 150-450 in this gallery .

Sorry for your wallet, but that lens deserves it .
Wow. Very impressive.
