Yes - Exactly. An image where there's an animal making eye contact, or nearly so, always has substantial impact. Humans are compulsive communicators, and eye contact makes us believe there is some link of understanding between us and whatever is looking back, however much it is a "dumb animal." That's part of the reason a praying* mantis looks "intelligent."

Curious that an appropriate name for this insect could be either "praying" or "preying" mantis.
