Sounds like a heck of a trip. The coast of Maine is beautiful. The tides run close to 3 meters there so the ocean can recede quite a bit. Acadia Nation Park is worth a day or two. Beware of leaf peepers. They erupt from the cities and overrun New England every autumn.
Yellowstone is what it is. Get into the park at daybreak for some quiet time at the popular spots before the mob hits. Expect possible winter weather too. It can snow early in the mountains. It snowed out there a few days ago at the higher elevations. I believe that the hiking trail that gives you an overview of Gran Prismatic Spring is now open. Well worth a few miles of effort. Hiking up to the Old Faithful overlook is not to bad either. It gives you a different perspective of the icon. There is a book called "The Roadside Geology of Yellowstone National Park". Very good read on what you are looking at.
There is also a live view web camera there. Call your friends back home and rub it in a bit. The Lamar Valley should have the most bison. Bring a few spotting scopes ad binoculars. In general the norther part of the park is less visited than the southern parts. If you visit the park's website it has the latest info and several webcams.

I forgot to add that daylight or UV filters for you glass is not a bad idea either. If you are near a thermal feature and you get steam on your lens, the minerals in it can damage it.
