A day at the beach...

Pentax K-1 with da 35mm macro limited.

I went to look for a very rare plant along the shore of this pond in Washington County, Florida.

I found it growing in the sand.

If you look closely, you can see the tiny green flowers.

The clouds of volcanic eruptions in Asia finally have reached the shores of Scotland and have dumped their loads of ash over Kerrowdown's front yard.

Great portrait of a charmingly attired model & great use of the 77. I should try mine again soon, but my wife keeps stealing it away from me to keep with her camera collection. She calls it our magic lens. My wife has only recently taken up photography, but says this lens takes a good picture without even trying!

Near the top of the wate fall, look a bit to the left just below the snow. Go twice that difference to the right of the waterfall at the same height and you see a dark cavity with a tan object in it. That is a large piece of petrified wood. That whole grey layer is volcanic ash that was deposited some 43 to 53 million years ago. These mountains are the remains of a large volcanic field called the Absaroka Volcanic Supergroup that were active when the Rocky Mountains were uplifted. A lot of the petrified trees are redwoods.

This area has seen a lot of rather spectacular geologic events. The Heart Mountain Detachment was a block slide. Think of it as the mother of all landslides. A whole section Heart Mountain broke free near NE Yellowstone National Park and slid some 60 miles (100km) to near Cody Wyoming. More info here for the geology buffs on the site. :
