FYI: Most of the stonework in Letchworth was done by the CCC one of FDR's projects to distribute money to the general population by employing young men to do public work. Many parks in the USA benefited almost incalculably from that program.
Yep. they also planted acres and acres of pine forests. Easily detected by the rows of trees. They are now being overtaken by other trees. One such forest is located next to this view which is called Inspiration Point. It shows the Upper and Middle Falls of the Genesee River as it enters the park. On the flat ground between the falls William Pryor Letchworth built his summer home he called Glen Iris. It is now an inn and restaurant. He purchased 1000 acres of land along the river to prevent it's use as mill sites. He then donated it to the state of New York and this was the beginning of the park as it exists now.

The Middle Falls is 107 feet (37 meters) tall.

Not quite sure what this flower is. Some kind of late blooming dogwood? If it is, the actual flower is the little green thingies.

\We visited & camped in Letchworth back in the film era. The camping was a mixed experience, as it rained and my son's tent leaked. So we went and bought a new one for him nearby. It had a hole* so it leaked as well. We had to go back and exchange it for yet another that was OK.. Letchworth is a place where both dogs and small children must be leashed at all times. I observed when there a tributary entering the Genesee. One of the two, as I remember the tributary, was pale brown with sediment from the runoff, while the other flow, I believe the Genesee itself, was clear. The two masses of water flowed side-by-side down the Genesee as far as I could see from the vantage I had, with minimal mixing, brown water down one back, darker clear water along the opposite bank, with a sharp division approximately down the center. It was an object lesson in how a warm water flow such as the Gulf Stream can remain discrete from surrounding colder water for thousands of miles.

*Tent made by Eureka which at the time was and possibly still is a highly regarded maker of small tents. At sometime in shipping the box had been dropped hard (one end was visibly mangled) causing one of the aluminum poles to poke a neat circular hole through the tent fabric high up toward the middle of the tent where it caused the maximum possible consternation.

I probably have over 2,000 slides of the park dating back to the early 1970's. This includes shots of the dam being totally filled and the flooded area behind the dam reaching all the way to the lower falls. Whole forests of downed trees were backed up behind the dam and it took years to remove them all.

Haven't posted a scenic from Utah on this thread for quite a while, mostly because I've used all the good ones. This one, not previously processed, is pretty good.

Yesterday at the Algonquin Park, Lookout Trail

---------- Post added 09-20-18 at 09:50 AM ----------

Yesterday at Peck Lake

No Raven, but I went for a walk on the trail anyway. There were a few shrooms near where the Raven was.

Halfway around I spotted this guy.

I know I could get a better, closer shot from the rock behind him, so I went back 100 meters. Looking the other way from the rock face.

OK dude, you are too close now.

I kept walking around the lake on the park trail, I got to the other side of the lake and guess who was there?

Dude, you're a friggin stalker, leave me alone already.

A few years ago I drove to Las Vegas, Nevada through Utah and remembered thinking how desolate Utah looks. Than after staying in Las Vegas for four days and driving back through Utah and thinking how green it looked.
