Finally had a chance to explore a bit of Georgia. Been too long, too busy with the move and looking for a new job)

This is taken at Tallulah Falls, GA
Haven't had a chance to use the Pentax-A 70-200 4 a lot that I picked up from a fellow member few months ago, finally giving it a chance, so far pretty nice!

Fantastic, hand made, that is a huge amount of work, can she read those types of patterns, a skill unto itself.

A while back I posted a rant about "too much post-processing". Here's a good example of what I was NOT saying (everyone seemed to assume that I was arguing against any post-processing at all). BruceBanner set the shot up carefully, knew what he was doing with the lighting and the camera, and then used artful post-processing to make the vision complete. A beautiful picture without TOO MUCH post-processing. See, if he'd like cranked up the saturation on the natural amber color of the leaves to look like a tart's makeup, it would have been trash, but because of his artful touch, it's, well, art! Beautiful.

Autumn SOOC

I rarely post SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) shots as I enjoy the editing process and can easily see where I can improve things, but here I think demonstrates that when you get really familiar with photography (and your own camera) you can derive some very satisfactory work natively without visiting any post processing computer application. The vignette here was added via what the camera can give and is pretty limited but it'll do.

The power in this shot comes from using some off camera flash, aimed directly at the subject but passing only through a diffusion umbrella. Because the flash light is natively quite 'white' you can bump the camera's white balance up to 7500k and generate all that lovely warmth from the Autumn colours without suffering yellow sickly skin. Due to the white flash 'cooling' down the skin and bringing somewhat normal flesh tones back we get a great balance in the shot with rich colours and natural looking skin tones.

If this shot was taken with Auto White Balance it would be very dull and flat indeed.

The babe in the woods is of course my wife

I concur... Bruce does tasteful work and I really enjoy his use of Bokeh (Not so sure about the more extreme Lensbaby stuff, but it's growing on me in reasonable amounts. LOL!) but I also find with the K-1 RAW files, if I expose to the left, which I normally do, and then when in PP I usually bring up the White Level and Shadows instead of the Exposure, that the colors pop on their own are almost too much and I have to knock the saturation DOWN sometimes. I seems to me that it just depends on how you get there. I guess I what I am trying to say is you don't ever have to touch the Saturation slider to get colors that look "tarted up" so to speak. I use a calibrated monitor and try to replicate the scene as I remember it most of the time, unless it's an artsy shot.
