These are the sort of shots that prompted this new set up with me.

What's the brand of that L-Bracket? Looks pretty nice!

Looks like a nice solid construction!

Didn't have I tripod / bean bag or similar with me. So I took the images handheld near the ground using live view and tilted the flexible screen upwards. A really nice K-1 feature.

If a strong and very solid construction is needed, I use a novoflex triopod base with macro legs, a levelling unit and a pano or ball head and a L-bracket attached to the camera. I guess the levelling unit allows around 15° tilting in all directions - very flexible and sufficient for most of these kind of images. The construction gives a height from ground to bottom of the camera of around 125mm in landscape orientation.

Must admit I'm pleased with it's performance, I've done two major shoots with this set up so far and no dramas with either.

My set up is 93mm to the base of L-Bracket and as you say the tilt-able screen on the K1 makes it a doddle to use.

The K-1 & HD DFA150-450mm combo resolving power continues to surprise me... If only this lens weighted what my DA*300mm does, I'd be in Pentax heaven, LOL!

For this amount of cropping while chasing bugs and birds, I'd prolly be better off with the one of the 24MP APSC bodies, as Normhead almost has me convinced, but then I get results like this, and have second thoughts. I still want an APSC as a 2nd body for long lens work someday... just waiting to see what the next announcement from Ricoh brings, as I am nothing if not patient. (the hallmark of being a Pentaxian. )

Heavily cropped to a little less than APSC size:

HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6ED DC AW ƒ/9.0 450.0 mm 1/1250 iso640

Same image file, insanely cropped:

The resolving power of the K-1 is amazing, isn't it?
