Stitched image of Yellowstone Lake. Last year at this time it was almost completely ice free. This year it is still almost completely frozen over.

Had a visitor over the back yard yesterday. He's been scoping out the new goslings but we have not lost any over the last couple of weeks.

Islay - Scotland

When you visit this island you can't ignore the various Single Malts produced here (and why would you want to ignore ...??).

A few "Whisky related" shots, all K1 and Rokinon 1.4/35

Wind and rain at Lagavulin Bay

Ardbeg destillery

... and finally Kilchoman

Yes, I know there are more. I visited all of them (I think) but didn't take photos everywhere:-)

Harvey

Harvey is a very playful Bernese belonging to a friend of mine. i did a portrait shoot of him yesterday, and this is the first off the press.

K1 + FA* 85mm 1.4 (my favourite portrait lens)

Thank you. My wife just retired and I took her out for her first visit in 21 years. Had a great time. Over the years I have been there 10 times. Starting in 2016 I try to get out there every May. Love the park that time of year. It is a 2,100 mile (3219 km) drive each way. Love the drive out. Hate the drive home. Still wintry out there. A local told me that the four seasons in Montana are Early Winter, Mid Winter. Late Winter and Next Winter.

Grizzly napping after feeding on an elk. The first shot was the scene at 450mm using my D FA 150-450 lens. The second shot is a heavy crop of the original. Two days later I went back to check out the site and all that was there was some ravens picking over the remains.

FWIW, last December I got a pair of high end Pentax10x43 Z-series ED binoculars. They are still on sale at B&H at $500 off list. I cannot say enough good things about them. Out there is the clear air of the mountains they really shine.

Rustic Falls on Glen Creek at the head of Golden Gate Canyon and a view down the canyon from the same spot. And yes, I did take a shot of Old Faithful.

Somewhere between 6,000 and 8,000 years ago a massive steam explosion in the West Thumb area of Yellowstone Lake resulted in a what is now known as Duck Lake. There is evidence of several such explosions around the lake.

The object in the foreground is an dormant hot spring formation called the Liberty Cap. It is part of Mammoth Hot Springs at Yellowstone National Park. Interestingly enough it seems to be sporting a face now.

Shhhhh . . . . . . . . it is sleeping.
