For me the color version works better, beautiful tones.

Thanks barondla ! I hate to rub it in (ok, not entirely hating it, LOL!), but this one wasn't too skittish at all. I first spotted him "hopping mad" in the neighbors front lawn. Never figured out what he was hopping up and down on, but I got a few crappy Cell Phone pics.

Then he flew up and perched in my tree, giving me time to run in the house, grab my K-1, pull off the 77mm, put on the 150-450mm and run back out. I grabbed some safety shots from a distance, then got closer, grabbed a few more... then got really brave, ran BACK into the house again, grabbed my af360 flash for some fill in the shade of that Oak tree, got even closer, and grabbed a couple more before he got sick of me and flew off. LOL!
More of those others to come...

Thanks Eddy! I dunno about perfect, but yeah, the K-1 & 150-450mm combo sure does some nice work, I just have to show up and give it something to do, heh. The bokeh and sharpness is silly good for what it is. I've never seen the likes of it on a lens of this type. It has to be the most under-rated Pentax lens I've ever seen. Crazy!

Between the Sun and the Moon

Me and my friends had one of the darkest spots on the Icefields Parkway to ourselves with only a single light that lit up the mountainside beyond for a few minutes. It was so quiet at 2 am you could hear small avalanches fall down the sides of the nearby hills.

A few from today. Mixture of lenses; 150-450 for the woodpecker and one grouse, the other grouse was the 55-300, works surprisingly well on the K1. And the Tamron 28-75 for the landscape. The high iso capability of the K1 got me some shots today.
ON days with less than full sun, my K-1 has completely replaced me K-3 just for low light.
I just looked out at my feeders, and there's a ruffed grouse out there on the ground, pecking away like a chicken.

He's right in front of where my blind would be set up if it was out there.

Those kinds of natural sounds can be haunting and humbling. When near Mt. Edith Cavell in the Canadian Rockies, you can hear the glacial ice groan and sometimes crack, and once in a while give an incredibly low pitched BOOOOOM that seems to stride through the valley and bounce off the rocks. Something beyond human control shifting and shrugging. Of interest - when out I think in Montana, in prairie country (=not in the mountains), Lewis & Clark recorded booming noises of unknown origin coming from the north, not associated with any T-storms. Since hearing the glacial noises at Mt. Edith Cavell I've wondered if the noise they heard came from some huge glacier beyond the horizon.
