Our natural vision is small zone of center sharpness with rapidly fading resolution toward the periphery, so images that have that characteristic look totally natural and "right."

And more specifically, never for the most fleeting instant did the image you posted look anything other than tack sharp to me.
Indeed....
I think there is too much emphasis on the technical qualities of a lens nowadays since its so easy to "prove one is better" as a photographer because one has the sharper lens.

In the end in real use, portability, plays a very important part of whether a photo gets shot (at least for me)

If your photography is technical, such as of test range experiments, sharp all over really matters but if it is for art, enjoyment and aesthetics sharp all over is probably not good.

Amen. If only the sharpest lenses will serve, why it there a market for soft-focus lenses, lensbaby, and Trioplan?

Yes that's it.

Yes, that's it. No crowds today and miraculously no traffic.

Much less traffic than a normal Sunday morning looking up St Aldates past the court and the cop shop to Tom Tower at Christchurch College, opposite Pembroke College and St Aldates church. You are down on the low part subject to about 1% annual probability of flooding. There are places nearby in the 3% annual probability contour, with houses on them on both sides of the river.

Tolkien worked at Pembroke College for a while before publishing Lord of the Rings.
