And more specifically, never for the most fleeting instant did the image you posted look anything other than tack sharp to me.

I think there is too much emphasis on the technical qualities of a lens nowadays since its so easy to "prove one is better" as a photographer because one has the sharper lens.
In the end in real use, portability, plays a very important part of whether a photo gets shot (at least for me)
