Thanks. So there's a new 35?
Obviously, the announcement wasn’t memorable: the HD Pentax-FA 35mm F2. It’s the old smcFA35/2 in a new frock.

Whatever for?
Because they could, I suppose, or because someone in the lens section had a bit of spare time. Some people here seem to like it, and it’s cheaper than a 31.

Hi Greg

I guess they ( Pentax ) are updating some of the lenses from SMC to HD.
They haven't touched the FA limiteds as of yet, I guess because of the probable backlash it would create.
Great pictures as usual from yourself.

With the announcement of the DFA Ltd 21/? (which mimics a fatter FA31 with the built in hood) features SDM and WR, many speculate that perhaps this signals the beginning of the revamp of the FA Ltds. I would expect more than HD coating on the the new FA77, 43 and 31, expect same optical formula wrapped up in WR and silent AF bodies.

Hi Bruce / Eddy

Any more than HD coatings on the 3 princes would I asume change their character, and if the originals unchanged get dropped from the line up as well, they better be better than best.

HD Coating would not change too much, would help with CA and flare/ghosting (you can see differences between the regular old FA 35 vs the HD 35, they still render similarly) etc, but if the optical formula remained the same I would expect the lenses to be very similar. It's 2020, this will be a new line, not FA Ltd but DFA Ltd (but nowhere has it been suggested a replacement line). It could be they will keep FA Ltds going as well, but without a doubt many are crying out for an updated FA Ltd, even adding AW/WR would be incredibly welcome, and I know from doing weddings that silent AF can be useful (the shutter clap the K-1 makes is still quite annoying however ). DFA 21 Ltd is a really exciting announcement imo, let's see what happens.

Like all things, times move on and perhaps the new DFA Ltds will miss something from these upgrades, swings and roundabouts. The FA Ltds might one day gain even more notoriety, much like how my Takumar 50/1.4 (8E) has the same famous foothold.

Thanks, it's Lady Eglington's Well in the grounds of Bretton Hall, now known as Yorkshire Sculpture Park (near Barnsley).

A few shots from the NC Arboretum with my K-1ii and a Tamron 28-75mm lens.

One of the bonsais in the Bonsai Garden.

There were several sculptures in the gardens made from legos. This is a grandchild gardening.

Of course the main attractions at the arboretum are the flowers. Here are a couple of shots I got using the Tamron 90mm f/2.8.

Peonies with Pentax K-1 II and SMC Pentax-M 50mm/1.7 (@f/2.8, I think)

(EDIT: Hmm, attachments are limited to 900px height? So my image was scaled from 1200x1200 to 900x900, no wonder it looks a little soft)
(EDIT 2: I replaced it with slightly sharpened 600x600 version, that's better. A 1200x1200 version is here)
