There were a few good bright fireballs last night. I think I was snoozing for this one but I'd call it a fireball.
We saw one a couple of weeks ago from the yard that was truly spectacular and bright enough to illuminate the landscape at dusk. I love those!

Some years back my son was driving us to a birthday dinner for me, the two of us in the front seat, wives in the back, and a really spectacular fireball went across ahead of us, by far the brightest I've ever seen. Faintly audible pop and bright flash as it died. He and I saw it, both wives missed it (and complained some). I did think about the ancient superstition that such celestial events are harbingers of a disaster, such as a death of a great leader. It being my birthday I might have thought it was a signal to me, but I'm not a victim of such nonsensical ideas.

I've seen a couple that lit up the landscape like daylight and burned a purple line into my vision for the night. For me the big or little ones inspire a sense of awe and wonder. I like to think about how far that little rock came to put this show on for us. I get lost in those kinds of thoughts.

I am not sure why, but I like this shot of my wife's handy-work. Shot this morning in our back yard. Thought I would share.

Nice! What I've always found intriguing about star trail pictures, ever since I shot my first one with my first SLR as a teenager, is how clearly visible the different colors of the stars can be.
