Any clue on preorder numbers for the K-1?

I have seen where availability dates are being pushed further and further back. Thankfully I ordered maybe an hour after it was announced, so I got an expected April 5th date, where now some people are being told mid May. This makes me wonder how many of these have been preordered. Has that total been far above what Ricoh expected, much like with the 645z? Hopefully someone in the know posts, and hopefully that is the case!

I love it when a Plan comes together.

I wonder if the different dates are for different countries or from different sources rather than being pushed back. B&H said April 5th when I ordered and that is still on their website today.

But regardless it would be very interesting if Adam would publish the number of pre-orders at some point. We can certainly add up the posters in those threads but I doubt that is all of them.

Trying to keep track here, if people would stop trying to derail the thread by posting other unrelated things.

Based on my conversations with retailers, Pentax pre-orders have never been through the roof, but for certain other FF bodies like the D800 (back in the day), pre-orders at B&H alone exceeded 50,000. Perhaps the K-1 could be the first Pentax to see these kinds of numbers

I'll do my best to get an idea of how the K-1 is doing.

Does Ricoh have agreements with retailers prohibiting the release of such information preferring all sales statistics come from the corporate (Ricoh) level? The photography market is a small part of Ricoh sales, but as a public company there may or may not be restrictions on official statistical reporting from retailers. Of course, this doesn't preclude someone inside a retailer from giving his/her observation.

In the old days stock analysts used to find out where a company bought its shipping boxes, figured out what size box particular products were shipped in, and then paid off a clerk at the box company to see how many boxes were sold to the retailer. Don't ask me how I know this (Note: This is how some people figured out the Crazy Eddie fraud). Just remember there is always more than one way to figure out sales, preorders, age of inventory, inventory turn, etc.
