Pentax K1 passes Australia by?

K1 on Pentax Au site is $3,188.90 B&H US $1779 = $2,480.68+ 10%GST $2730.65 Australian Pentax Users get ripped again.

I think some have said some Aus. dealers have put it about $2800-2900, which is much closer. I think the CRK price probably reflects a reasonable margin for the dealers.

Either they don't want to sell any K-1 in Australia, or they feel that demand is such that they can charge any price they want.

Then add D FA lens prices into it ...

I'll pass on the K-1, I think, for a while. At least until some attractive retail discounting starts to happen.

Today I spoke to Tom at the Grenfell St camera house, we both know each other well...we had a big discussion on not only the expected price of the K-1 but also the fact that CRK has a more or less complete monopoly on the market, which isn't healthy. The K-1 can be ordered in, but CRK is making it prohibitive cost wise to keep the camera in stock for brick and mortar stores. There is no question that the camera will sell: but if people don't have access to the product that they want, they will settle for whatever is the next best thing.

That is a pretty accurate description of the present situation. Good business is theft....though I would amend that to extortion.

The Camera warehouse price includes a 64GB Extreme Pro card, which is a useful sweetener. Aus$2799 is about US$2000, so not catastrophic, unlike the CRK price.

A quick round of googling suggests that Ricoh sites in several countries are lacking any mention of the K-1.

64GB card is only available to the first 20 to pre-order and is listed at $109 on that site, meaning K1 effectively is $2690 - perhaps as good as we'll get?? I wonder if there will be any bundles?
