A$4800 buys a reasonably Toyota if you shop around,I get 300ks over 12 years for that money...my K1 will come in 2 years with 100kliks on it...

My lenses will have to be patient!

The K-1 plus DA 50 f1.8 or DA 35 f2.4 would be a much more affordable body/FF lens kit.

If you really needed a 24-70, the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 HSM (@$900) might be worth a look, as may the screw-drive Tamron 28-75 f2.8 @ about $600 new (even less grey). The Pentax 24-70 is no doubt a better lens than either of those, but on a budget ...

Thanks!
I have a DA 50 f1.8. Not sure it covers full frame. I also have a Tamron 28-75, but I found it's not sharp on my K5 and K3.
I'd really like a quality zoom lens in 24-70 range....maybe 28-105 will be sharp enough. We'll see.

I have one too. I always found it a performed best stopped down even just a tiny amount. f3.5 and above and it is great.

You might find this comparison between the Tamron 28-75 and Tamron 24-70, mounted on a D810 by DxO, interesting, esp looking at the field maps. The 24-70 is a better lens overall, sharper in the corners particularly, but the 28-75 doesn't seem a total disgrace on 36MP FF. Luckily

Thanks for the info and your advice, rawr. I'll probably try the 28-75 with K-1 before I make a decision wheather to buy a DFA 24-70, which means I'll buy a K-1 first.

Thanks! I don't remember where I saw it but somebody posted sample photos showing dark corners from DA50 1.8 on a full frame camera.

I think we really need to stamp on misinformation, David ... have you got a link?

Here's a casual shot from yesterday in a car wash waiting room, very wide aperture you can see from the buttons on the remote:

Hit the preorder button, direct from CR Kennedy. I know $2899 is a bit of a premium price, but so far their after sales has been good to us. When I looked back over some of the calculations it's not that much above the US conversion + GST. And free delivery, first time I have had that.

Now get the money together for the new 24-70. Love that the DA* 300 fills the 35mm circle and I have a great FA 100 macro, plus the D FA 100 macro and the 50mm 1.4 so not much more need, just perhaps a FA 77mm. This might be my long term camera, this time.

Annie will be moving to the K-3 and the K30 will go up for sale and the DA* 16-50 as we have 2. This should off set the price premium a bit.

Can't wait to see what this new baby will do. Just have to wait forever for Apple to get the RAW converter update released.

Congradulations on the purchase, I'm sure we will all be thrilled....... waiting for the various software to catch up will be annoying..... but at least when the beast arrives we will have the K5/3 batteries charged ready to go in it straight away!

Thanks. I was wondering about batteries, the K-1 seems to have a slightly improved power wise battery, but hope the K-3 ones work too as I have a few.

Takes the same battery....... I haven't read anything to suggest it (battery) has a higher capacity...... the K1 not having a flash means the standard they test it to gives more pictures.... as the standard requires a percentage of flash shots of the camera if it has one..... I'm assuming at this point it will probally chew thru the battery a bit quicker then the K3.....but should be fine anyway.... a bit like K5 to K3 battery usage.

Thanks. They all charged ready for April. Now I will have to fight Annie for batteries when she takes over the K-3.
