But check the conditions:
'Available for pre-order only with a deposit of $500. Final price TBC'
You'd have to be keen. Some have waited 15 years for this. A week or two longer to get a firm price won't hurt.

I agree, don't rush head first into a deal.

I popped into Ted's this arvo on Pulteney St (Adelaide). The guy behind the counter said they had price info ($2699) but no ETA.

He then went on and said the K-1 was an interesting product as there aren't a lot of new full-frame lenses in K-mount and it would probably appeal mainly to people who already had a lot of Pentax lenses. Then he went on to say that old lenses will be no good on it anyway, because DP Review did a test with an old lens on the K-1 and it was disappointing...

I told him they used a (relatively) cr@p lens and there are plenty of much better lenses out there but I got the feeling he didn't really believe me. I mean, I'm just a guy off the street while those DP Review people are experts. I wonder how many other potential customers he'll warn about legacy Pentax lenses being no good.

With glorious glass like the FA85, FA31 and A50 f1.2, Richard Butler went for an old 50 f2 left over somewhere.

I could say that only knobs trust DPR, but the fact is there are a lot of them that do.

I read the DPR review. I got the impression that they viewed it fairly favourably. I bet they sell lots of other brands at Ted's – they certainly did the last time I was in one of their stores. Some people just don't deal well with change.

Typical misinformed drivel from Teds as usual. i'm not a huge fan Diamonds camera stores either, the people that work there try to be more open minded about other systems and are generally more professionally oriented - I got some Lecia M lenses from them a while ago.

Wow, that price is a kick in the nuts. That's over US$2,250. Guess I'll be getting it from O.S. then...

Its really disappointing that CR Kennedy sets such a crazy price for K1!
USD1800 +10% GST would only get ~AUD2828, at 0.70 exchange rate...

Would someone be so nice to post the Australian RRP here? I just spent 15 minutes on CR Kennedy's home page but I can't seem to find this information. Thanks.

Yeah, I know. Based on today's exchange rate US$1,799 is approx. AUD$2,511.

It looks as though they've based it on Japan's pricing, taken off 8% for Japanese consumption tax and then added 10% for our GST.

Especially disappointing given Ted's price info yesterday was AUD$2,699. Hopefully it will change in the next few weeks.
