I'm currently in the process of booking 3 weeks accomodation in Japan and it hurts

How much is a K-1 in Japan, relative to the local AU price?

I played in a band on a Pacific cruise for a few months and they made me open up my guitar case to check that I hadn't swapped my guitar for a more expensive one along the way. I even had to get permission to bring my PA back into Australia.

I've often taken two cameras in my on-board luggage, including a messenger bag, when travelling overseas. I've never been asked to take them out for inspection or recording, in either direction.

A bit off topic; I'm having an exhibition of photographs and paintings in July and it'd be great to see a few of you guys there. It's going to be at the Hamra Centre Library auditorium from July 5. It's a great gallery.

I've never been asked either....... if one is worried buy some cheap wooden thing and declare it on the way in.... gets you straight through every time...... the old mis direct.

We declare that we have goods even when we don't. The line through 'something to declare' is far far shorter than the line through 'nothing to declare'. I usually have a bag of biscuits or something that can be thrown out. It's a good ploy.

As promised, I contacted Kirks in Ringwood. They have about the same news that we do. They have not heard from CRK, and have no idea what the retail price will be for the K-1. They expect, as I do, that the CRK list price will be about $400-600 higher than the street price when it gets to retail shops. Very much in line with the Camera Warehouse price.

As an aside, the sales guy, (whom I know quite well and is a huge Canon fan) is blown away by the feature set of the K-1. he was asking ME about the features such as the astrotracer and sensor shift. When I pointed out that the tech promises to be able to discern moving parts of the image when using the pixel shift feature, he was most impressed.

I really think RP have a big winner on their hands.

My calculated price based on the current exchange rate and extrapolated from the B&H USA pricing was AU$2745.41, which is very close.

Just for the sake of correctness, your equation above is a little off.
Don't forget, you are quoting here the dealer room notation. When you do a financial transaction it will inevitably go through a bank which means you get, at best, 0.70 to the US Dollar.
