To me it doesn't matter what the chain's website says; the three Camera House franchises that I know don's stock Pentax at all.
My local Camera House always has Pentax stuff in it, but the one in the next town doesn't have any at all. I think it all depends on the local store management. Each store seems to have a lot of independence. My local CH stocks many items you won't find in the CH web site.

Strange to tell, the one in this small corner of the continent does stock Pentax, but not much, and no price, as yet.

On the matter of pricing, it seems there is some variability, at least according to Shopbot.com.au:
  • Ted's - $2,799.95
  • Camera Warehouse - $2,849.00
  • Leederville Cameras - $2,899.00
  • Cameras Direct - $2,915.00
  • Digi Direct - $2,957.00
  • DCC - $3,259.00

Georges and Gerry Gibbs Camera Warehouse are still only advertising deposits on their websites - not good enough.

Digital Camera Warehouse didn't come up on the Shopbot listing, for some reason, but they're advertising the K-1 for $2,799.00, so they're the best on advertised price, so far.
Vanbar Imaging don't list the K-1, even though they stock the K-3 (they still have K-5 stock on hand, according to their website listings!)

Sad to say that B&H is modestly competitive at $2,394.26 + shipping + GST = $2,651.65, but the risk, of course, is the cost of return shipping, in the event that something goes awry in the warranty period.

I ordered mine from Leaderville some time ago... for $2,799... their price went up shortly after....going OS in later May so will get some GST back.

My wife will be in New York in late May (without me) .... was tempted for her to get me one.... but minor saving is not worth warranty hassles....or the month and day being around the wrong way, colour spelled color etc etc......

Ted's Canberra

My "local" said it had a couple of orders but wasn't intending putting a display camera in store - it'd be nice if the new pricing approach changed its mind, else I'll be driving to Sydney (from Canberra) to hold one as I have arthritis issues and won't buy one before I hold it...and if I have to drive to Sydney, then I'll buy there too.
I ordered mine through Ted's in Canberra a few weeks ago. Happy to meet up when I get it if it saves you a trip to Sydney. I work in the city.

I just put in my pre order again, this time with DCW, $2799 and they told me I am 13th in line and the release date would be 29/04/2016 but it could change.

Just for correctness sake the shipping cost, insurance and Customs Entry Fee (approx. Au$50.00 if you do it yourself) and any other cost(s) associated with the Import, like if you are unlucky demurrage fees, is added to the invoice value after it has been converted to Au Dollars, the total of which then is calculated at 10% GST (Goods and Services Tax) In Australia there is no Import Duty (usually 5%) levied against Cameras because there are no Cameras manufactured in Australia. How generous is that of Australian Customs

At the current Au - US Dollar exchange rate, not worth it.

Cheers

Just hassled my local camera store again and he called CRK today. The first shipment of K-1's are about 3 weeks away - and he confirmed my order will be among them . The 15-30 will be arriving in the same shipment and my dealers price is around $2800 inc GST..... maybe a bit too much, would be a lot cheaper importing!

For the moment, I agree that going through an overseas retailer isn't worth the effort. For myself, I'm content to wait and be among the Early Majority, this time, whereas I've been in the Innovator or Early Adopter group previously. Upward pressure on the Australian Dollar, combined with the historically-based probability of the price falling after a few months means that I might be better off financially, particularly as I'm still to get the most out of my K-3.

Rang CR Kennedy today, they said end April they should arrive in Australia and the ring about then re delivery. I also asked about the 24-70 and all current expected stock is spoken for. Damn should have ordered before the price went up. Been toying with buying from B & H. slightly cheaper.

Some of this applies to me too, I think.

I have wrestled long and hard with this one, and between the upward trend of the AU$ and the fact that I'll be heading o'seas late in the year, it just might pay me to wait. Plus, my K-3 still stretches my competence and so spending more time with it might be a good idea.

...but I WANT the K-1
