Art reproduction is all about printing after the initial capture. I would like to know what the limit of the pixel shifted print size is going to be. Does anyone on the PF do digital capture and printing from the capture. I would like to hear what their experience are in terms of the limits of file size and how big you can print a particular digital capture.
That really depends on the viewing distance of the print. A print destined to be viewed at 10 feet can be printed much larger at a lower DPI. The K-1's max resolution is 7930 x 4912. If you print that at 300 dpi you would get a ~24 x 16 inch print suitable for viewing at 12 inches. Print it at 30 dpi you'll get a print 240 inches wide & 160 inches high suitable to be viewed from 10 feet.

Hello

Diglloyd stated:

"Never before have I seen per pixel quality this good, from any camera"

"The Pentax K1 SuperResolution mode appears to offer the highest image quality and highest resolving power of any DSLR today"

"So I’m going to go out on a limb here: to my eyes, the Pentax K1 SuperResolution pixel shift mode will easily outperform Nikon D810 and Sony A7R II and Leica S. I suspect it will outperform the 50-megapixel Canon 5DS R and most if not all medium format systems as well"

Is it possible to get a before/after count-count of an image like the pixel-shift sample above?

I believe a pixel-shift image will not only have greater detail, but may also have greater colour depth. But need a colour count to confirm.
Yes an increase from 667 632 colors to 677901 colors using Pixel Shift for this scene!

ie only the tiniest increase. Surprising.

But the samples are sRGB and JPEG, I believe, so that may throw away some colours. Full TIFFs (or DNG's) might reveal more of a before/after colour boost, perhaps.

You can’t judge quality by counting the number of different colors. If you could a really noisy sensor that more or less randomized colors would indicate superior quality.
