It's not bigger than 5D Mark III and 6D. The only dimension in which K-1 surpasses these Canons is thickness.

"Pentax K-1 is 10% (15.5 mm) narrower and 5% (6.4 mm) shorter than Canon EOS 5D Mark III.
Pentax K-1 is 12% (9.1 mm) thicker than Canon EOS 5D Mark III.
Pentax K-1 [1010 g] weights 6% (60 grams) more than Canon EOS 5D Mark III [950 g] (*inc. batteries and memory card).

Pentax K-1 dimensions: 136.5x110x85.5 mm (camera body only, excluding protrusion)
Canon EOS 5D Mark III dimensions: 152x116.4x76.4 mm (camera body only, excluding protrusion)"

It's heavier than Canons because it's made out of better materials. As all Pentax high end cameras.

And if compare K-1 to APS-C Canon 7D Mark II K-1 comes smaller again.

Guys at Pentax know how to make gear that is compact and feels solid at the same time.

The Pentax K-1 is thicker than the Leica S by 5.5mm. Personally I can't say I have ever made that call at work when i'm switching between the S and my K mount dslrs.

I think it is heavier because of the metal on metal construction. (Magnesium alloy over stainless steel) Personally I like a heavier camera. It makes for better hand held stability. (as well as in-the-field durability) ;-)

Typical Pentax. Great job done.

Pentax did a great job on the size of the K1.
If you want to see a hilarious comparison, select the Olympus E3, that I used for a few years. Look at the sensor size.

HA!

You should also check out the Sigma SD1 which is a few hundred grams lighter, but physically bigger than the K-1.

Stunning. What a cute little sensor!

I guess the Df is a bit smaller in the FF dSLR segment. Remember that one, anybody? What a curious mongrel mod-throwback. For somebody out there it's ideal though..
Compare camera dimensions side by side

I had to check . Sucks to be a Canon 7DII owner when it come to size and weight.
Sucks to be a Canon user/owner period... I am glad I don't join the dark side... their system is so archaic (because they need to protect existing users) as everything on the camera seem so old and dated.

Comparing the top views is also a good reminder of why we are Pentaxians...

Two reasons. First it is packed with awesomeness. Second, you can drive nails with it.

Yes, Tuco seems to enjoy his. The K-1 is much thicker on account of that fancy rear LCD. If that were stripped off, the two would be much closer in both weight and dimensions. Perhaps Pentax will see fit to issue a K-1L (lite) at some later date?

I presume the Super SR mechanism accounts for some of that reverse pot belly as well

Want a laugh? Compare the Canon 1DX or the Nikon D5 to the K-1.

The new fantastic multi-angle LCD contributes in the thickness while other don't
