K-1 shutter sound compared to K-3 (video)

Here's a comparison of the shutter sound. Given the larger mirror mechanism, I'd say this sounds OK, not too loud. I wish it sounded like my K-5, but I guess it just isn't possible.

For those of you who can't watch the video, the K1 is like "CLEP CLEP CLEP" and the K-3 is like "clip clip clip".

Now take out a 645Z and listen to the clap, followed by the thunder. Not so sure this clip was to compare sound as much as it was to show fps.

Also note that any WR lens is going to dampen mirror slap and shutters more than non-WR.

The audio recording is not good - he moves the mic around, putting it closer to the K-1 sometimes than the K-3, so it's really hard to judge one camera against the other.

Still, K-1 sounds quieter than some Nikon FF's. Put a big lens on the K-1 like the 70-200 or even 15-30 and noise should be very well dampened.

With the greater mass of the K1, things should not be too different sound-wise once you have a lens on the body. The K-5 still sounds better than K-3 to me.

Agree with people who say that K5's shutter sounds best. So quiet, so subtle. I love it.

A little louder in the K1, but the AF screw seems more quietly

Definitely sounds like K-1 has quieter screwdrive mechanism. It will be interesting to get more feedback on this when the camera is available. Shutter sound comparison can be deceiving since it was done with no lens mounted.

I like them both! LOL, it seem sthe K-3 and K-3ii will be the "Sports" cameras and the K-1 will be the "Wedding" cameras. Not that they won't play in each other's yard quite frequently, but the faster shutter speed on the K-3 and K-3ii may be needed in the crazy fast situations.

It looks to me like the K-1 has a much stronger focus motor at about the same sound level. That would account for the higher pitch.

not only that.. watch closely as it racks focus.. it seems faster on the K-1 in that regard as well.

I do appreciate the videos, but it's no substitute for hearing in the flesh. My K-5II sounds great with a lens on but obnoxious with no lens, IMHO. But yes, the K-3II does seem to have a quieter shutter but louder screw AF based on the video.

But no DSLR I've heard can compete with my K1000 for pleasing shutter AND autofocus sounds!

I would like to remind that sound of fresh new cameras always different from the used one. Approximately after year of use it will sound quieter after two years will sound louder.
