K-1 has a BSI sensor?

I have read on a comment on Youtube, that K-1 has a Back Illuminated Sensor. It is true?

Don't think so. BIS is mainly for small sensors.

I just saw a youtube comment from Andrew Munster with that claim. I doubt he knew what he was talking about.

Would a 36MP FF sensor even be feasible as BSI tech?

Yes. The sensor in the A7RII is a 42 mpx BSI sensor. Part of the buzz about the A7RII is that such a large sensor is BSI. Not all Sony users are convinced that the BSI adds much at that size.

Just because some random gasbag says something on YouTube doesn't make it true.

So far, all anyone knows, or has heard, is that the K-1 basically has the 36MP D800 or D810 Sony sensor. Which is not a BSI chip.

The only "large" BSI sensors so far have been the 42MP in the A7RII and the 28MP one in the Samsung cameras.

BSI doesn't seem to be taking the world by storm.

I thought it had been stated that it was not the same sensor. Several stats seemed different including MAX ISO.

The Ricoh rep at CP+ (in JPT's CP+ report) said Nikon boosted the ISO beyond Sony's factory specs for the D810 sensor, but Ricoh wasn't prepared to do that.

And if you look at the current Sony sensor catalogue, they only sell one 36MP FF chip - the IMX094.

According to JPT, a Ricoh representative at CP+ said the K1 sensor was the same one as used by Nikon in the D810.

- I asked about the sensor and ISO performance. According to the rep, the K-1 is at ISO 12,800 like the K-5 IIs is at 3200. The base ISO is 100 and Ricoh does not offer ISO expansion. It is exactly the same part as in the D810, but Nikon uses the sensor outside the manufacturer’s recommended ISO range, while Ricoh won’t do that. The reason why the K-1 is about one stop cleaner (he had images to show this) than the D810 is Ricoh’s improved “engine”.

Now there's something I've been waiting to hear, but what about Dynamic Range.

Cell phones get a boost from BSI because the pixels are so small. DSLRs have huge sensors in comparison, and similar pixel counts, so BSI is less important for DSLRs.
