Well ... well ... well ... it looks as if the K-1 price war has begun ...

Just saw this in dpr, and in Japan, the other manufacturers are cutting prices: K-1 and Market Reaction: Price War in Japan: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

I don't know if anyone has verified these prices. Any folks here from Japan?

Let the price games begin ... ;-)

I guess that makes Pentax, the camera cartel price busters.

And if pentax' trck record continues we know it will sell for less than the 1799 introductory price within months.

The prices are correct, Kakaku is well regarded as the benchmark for all various electronic products in Japan.

Anyone willing to speculate as to whether Canon and Nikon are going to try to price to kill Pentax, or just enough to not haemorrhage quite so many future buyers?

The price advantage is $1000 per body in favour of the K-1 already. Surely a price war is unsustainable for the others?

Interesting... Canikon wants to keep market shares... but the problems is, they also have many models to protect, which also means if they lower the price of upper-end models, they have to do the same for the lower-end models. Interesting time ahead....

only thing is, the D810 and 5Dii have presumably already paid off their R&D

Depends on the cost of replacing the D800s and D810s after the oil stains fiascos. Who knows how much damage that did?

If this trend keeps up I'm going to have a hard time following through with my plan to get the K-3II before the K-1...

Price war? Depends where you live.

I read recently that from April Nikon, Sony, Canon and Panasonic and other Japanese manufacturers will be raising their prices, in Canada due to currency movements, and for Nikon, big price increases of up to 30% are on the way in Europe. Plus Nikon only recently announced increased prices in Japan for lenses and accessories due to 'increased cost of raw materials'.

Give with one hand, take away with the other.

Very true. I was told today the lens I want will possibly be 20% more next month here in Canada.

No the store doesn't have lay away, however it's a special order so I can put a down payment at the end of the month and then pay the rest when I pick it up. There isn't really a time limit per say to pick it up.
