The red light is there to illuminate the whole viewfinder for when the points are hard to see. If you see AF points, it means they're confirming focus, regardless of the color.

If you've ever picked up a Nikon, you'll feel right at home with this viewfinder. If not, and you have the opportunity to try one out locally, you could do that to get a sense of how the K-1's viewfinder works.

So the question remains will 1:1 (and 4:3) crop mode with indicators in the viewfinder be on the production models or not. Was it removed or added to later demo models? If it was a feature that was removed or disabled from firmware may it not be added back later in a firmware update? Were the framelines added or removed on the viewfinder LCD? If it were a hardware revision to remove the crop indicator re-appearance in firmware updates would be much less likely.
I think they got rid of the 1:1 software crop option to avoid confusing users. Unlike certain other full-frame DSLRs, the K-1 only has the APS-C frame in the viewfinder. Shooting without an indication of the crop area would be more or less like shooting blind. I agree with Pentax's decision to remove the option.

Thanks Adam, another very helpful video!

The viewfinder seems very feature rich and contains many very useful functions, the AF seems very snappy too.

Just 2 questions:
How does the AF speed, accuracy and tracking compare to the D800(Or D810) you have?

And does the AF points turns red to confirm focus and stays red while staying focused ? Or does it flashes in red for a short time?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Adam for clarifying this for me!!
I will go try a Nikon body to test it out!

One further question, based on current firmware,
when the OVF illumination is turned on (the red light),
will it be on all the time or just when you half-press the shutter button(keep on til you release the shutter button)?

We asked RICOH at WPPI and they said that the 1:1 crop mode is gone from the production models.
Why? In LV too?

Ricoh hasn't said why.

It's been stated many times by Adam and Ricoh that the production models will have only two modes - no crop (full frame) or APS-C (1.5). It's also been reported that some of the demo pre-production models do not have the 1:1 on the menu.

GXR has 4:3, 16:9, 1:1 modes in EVF and in LV. No any confusing...

You can probably set the output aspect ratio for in-camera development and JPEG cropping in editing to 16:9, 3:2, 4:3 and 1:1 as you can with the K-3 and other bodies.

An EVF is essentially a miniature monitor with pixels so you can pixel map any shape you want on it. The LCD screen in the K-1 looks to have only pre-defined shapes on it. If the frames for different crops are not present to begin with firmware changes isn't going to make them magically appear.
