Newer Sigma lenses

Has Sigma released anything on adding Pentax mounts to their newer lenses? They were left out primarily because the market for Pentax would have been minimal since there were no cameras available to utilize the FF aspect . Now with this announcement I'm curious if anyone has heard if they plan to add Pentax to any of their existing lenses or maybe to new ones going forward.

I've been a huge fan of what sigma has been doing lately. For the type of work I do the current line up Pentax offers just won't cut it and there is little point upgrading if I stick with my APS.C lenses.

I'm just curious if anyone has heard of Sigma, or other third party manufacturers, addressing this.

No. The last lens Sigma released in K-mount was the 18-300. You will not see any other lenses in K-mount from Sigma. I have seen 3 or 4 different reasons, but they don't matter. It's just Sigma being a Japanese company and refusing to flat out say what they really mean.

You will not see any Tamron lenses in K-mount either, unless they are rebadged as Pentax. Tokina is irrelevant, Cosina and Zeiss have no interest.

Samyang and Venus seem to be the only third parties interested in K-mount.

They were asked at CP+ and replied "not at this time". Which could mean anything, but likely means not unless the Pentax market share climbs significantly.

Isn't Ricoh/Pentax market share still very close to 3rd? I don't see it climbing significantly quickly but steadily and slowly improving. However, if they are making lenses for other manufacturers with the same or worse market share, then that probably isn't the real issue.

They're really only getting their money back on selling to Canon and Nikon customers.

Sony, Fuji, Olympus, Pentax and co don't seem to pay the bills.

No idea. Just quoting what was in the CP+ interview.

Whatever Pentax market share is, Sigma is not adding new K-mount and Tamron only made them under contract to rebadge them to Pentax. If the K-1 is a huge success then Sigma might re-evaluate but even if they decided to do so tomorrow it still might be 1 or even 2 years before anything actually appears at retail.

What kind of work do you do by the way?
Obviously Pentax has a few holes in the FF line up at the moment, the only fast 24 options are the 2.8 zooms or the samyang 24/1.4.
The sigma 35/1.4 art and 85/1.4 are currently made in K mount.

You can still buy the 150-500 from Sigma in SA mount. They must have sold so many...

Yeah, I can't see anyone making lenses for the dying A-mount.

Tamron may be forced to make them for E-mount because Sony is a shareholder.

Not Sony A mount. Sigma SA mount.

The 150-500 was discontinued last year, maybe earlier, but they still have inventory in their own mount...

The best solution would be that Pentax start selling it's new lenses at Sigma prices, not at canikon OS prices.
