Sandy Ramirez - Pro photographer - K-1's autofocus on par with Canon 1DX

Excellent news from Sandy Ramirez about the K-1's autofocus.

"the K-1 is an incredible camera. It's on par with the top of the line Canons or Nikons. Seriously I now will get myself one, a great companion to my 645Z."

Autofocus "on par and slightly more accurate than the Canon 1DX."

It looks like Pentax AF has come of age, big time.

The AF responsiveness is in a new league as far as Pentax DSLRs are concerned.
Sounds like a total endorsement.

It's a very clunky forum to read through, but it makes me feel like ordering a second K-1

Aha! Flat View does it for me. I might hang around a bit more now
Then again, I already waste enough time here....

It's always been accurate, what about the speed? 😁

Edit: "I really wanted to test that today so I did a lot of jumping across the field of view with the model and fast walking testing both the burst and clear of the buffer and the AF tracking. Using the 24-70 I would call it on par and slightly more accurate than the Canon 1DX. Very fast and accurate tracking, zero hunting even when the model was wearing an all black dress and a hit rate based on what I am seeing in the DNG files of about 97-98%."

On par with the 1DX??? Thats a big claim. The 1DX is a sports and action camera. This isnt. I'd be shocked if it even got close to that.

Pretty bullish, isn't it?

Talks ("slightly more accurate") as if he has owned/used one, though.

I assume he is referring to accuracy and AF.S speed. I'd be veeery surprised if the K-1 equalled the 1Dx on AF.C speed, tracking etc.

The camera has "very surprised" a lot of people already. With this camera, I really don't really pay any attention to what people expect anymore. Someone expecting something is almost a guarantee it's not going to be the way they say it is.

Even if slighly overstated, I think we can safely assumed that the AF will not be a liability for the K-1 and should be more than good enough but for the most demanding users. Even if the AF was "only" good as the ones of D810 or 5D, there would be nothing to complain about.
