Ok..... yep, some think the K-1 is priced well, but that may only be the begining of your "out of pocket expenses". So what are you thinking that you will need? I've just bought some 52mm filters for my SMC K lenses as I've been using 52:49mm step down rings and 49mm filters for some time now.....ok for crop sensor but not so good for FF.

- some extra batteries
- display protecting foil
- handstrap or maybe the O-ST1401 neck strap
- camera mounting plate
- 64 or 128 GB memory cards
- maybe battery grip (not yet sure).


Flash is a question. Will AF-540FGZ work well with K-1, or is it time for upgrade?

well the K-1 is priced well if you live in the US :-) i ordered mine with a battery grip and have enough batteries, from my last cameras, K-3, K-5, 645Z..
i have the cactus flash system and it will serve me also for the K-1.
My only extra expense would be one ultrawide lens.. and i am thinking either the Pentax (tamron) 15-30 or the Irix 15mm.

K-1 will be an economic stretch for me even if I wait till the price falls. I would only need an extra battery. I already have a set of lenses I want to use with it, from wide to tele:

- Samyang 8mm f/3,5 APS-C 180 degree diagonal fisheye, FF circular fisheye, manual focus
- Sigma 18-35mm f/1,8 Art APS-C lens that have varying image circle up to about 1,2x crop factor with some settings
- Tamron 28-200mm f/? FF capable
- Pentax DA 40mm f/2,8 XS pancake, FF capable
- Pentax DA 50mm f/1,8 FF capable
- Tamron 90mm f/2,8 macro FF capable
- Chinon 135mm f/2,8 FF capable manual focus
- Tamron 300mm f/2,8 FF capable manual focus (with 1,4x and 2,0x TC)

And a few lenses that will be sold, because I don’t expect to use them on a K-1:

- Pentax DA 18-135mm f/3,5-5,6 WR, APS-C
- Sigma 28-80mm f/3,5-5,6 FF capable
- Pentax-M 40mm f/2,8 pancake FF capable manual focus
- Pentax-M 50mm f/1,4 FF capable manual focus

I'm not concerned about having wide APS-C lenses, but over time I might exchange the Sigma 18-35 for a more compact prime. I hope Pentax will make a D-FA 24mm f/2,4 WR Limited pancake. The Tamron 28-200 is FF capable, but might be replaced with a better Pentax WR lens in the future, hopefully something with more reach then 28-105. Aside from that I might be better of using my money elsewhere. Travel, editing training, saving up for a 2022 camera.

i will need nothing that isn't already in the box. I already have a spare battery on hand for the K-5 and IIRC these are compatible, and I do not expect any single shooting session to drain the one that comes with the camera. I have a good selection of film-era MF and AF lenses. I have a high-end flash and I would not be embarrassed to put my old AF200Sa on it if I wanted something less bulky. The K-1 would seamlessly replace or fit in alongside my K-5, and fit in alongside my film bodies.

Same as the "standard things" that @zzeitg mentioned as I have some film era lens that covers the field of view I am use to, besides most of the DA lenses will work well with the full frame.
That only thing I have been thinking of is that I use to buy only 16-32 GB memory cards, now if I buy the K-1, I need to buy the more expensive high capacity card for the file size of each photo.

I'm probally going to stick to 32GB SD cards, mostly for safety sake. Will wait for a small UWA "limited" lens as well to go with the 31/43/77. I'm thinking of replacing my Sigma 70-200/2.8 over the next 12 months with the DFA, mostly for its WR.

I'm keen to see how the DA10-17 looks at 17 on the K-1..... if ok that might scratch the UWA itch ......maybe.

Some people said the same about 32 MB cards 15 years ago. Why don't they stick to their safety strategy any more, even if we don't have 1000x more megapixels now? Its because they have misunderstood all the time. Large cards increase safety, if they are backed up as often as with smaller cards. Its because the card acts as an extra copy of a larger number of files. And the risc of loosing a card is much lower when its in the camera all the time compared to having many cards floating around in different pockets and drawers.

Obviously not a married man. The correct answer is that there are no on-costs and significant financial benefits to upgrading to a FF.

I have a different view, since 4-500 images on a card is enough for me when travelling as far as risk goes (2 days images when travelling). No different to keeping all the credits cards in one place..... don't do that either when travelling. Can guarantee though, that I won't be using 32GB SD cards in 15 years time.... (I'm expecting to be dead by then)

Since I'm retired most important photography for me is 1-4 week OS visits and rural travels..... and I haven't found a cost effective and convenient back up strategy for travel yet. Anyway, I'm not expecting storage to be much different then what it has been for the K3 given my shooting style and subjects.

I don't think I need any bigger than 32GB, certainly not bigger than 64GB. A 32 will fit just north of 2000 high res 16MP jpeg images from a K-5, so even if I have a third of that (figures suggest half), that's more than enough for one shooting session for me. If the card gets full, it's telling me I'm not backing up often enough.

I got the 24-70 F2.8, and two big filters to match the breast. Lensewise my collection should e good for the start. The 15-30 looks nice, but it is really expensive and can wait. Other than that I'll need a new harddrive soon.
