jrpower10 explained it, but I like yours better mee. Thanks. I can't believe they made this fantastic lens with no filter threads though
They make filters for this lens. Wonderpana and Lee both have filters for it. Look for ones to fit a Tamron 15-30mm. Warning!! Not cheap!

I had this lens on order and then I cancelled it.
Why?
Since it's a wide angle lens, I was going to use it for landscapes and such.
There are only a few ways to attach a filter to the lens, and the filter system(s) that you must use for it are after market and expensive.
The Lee system would add as much cost as the lens!
Sadly, I cancelled my order.

Yep. And why I cancelled my order.

It's a shame... It's an amazing lens (I have the Tamron).

320 combined for adapter ring and holder, plus 100+ for filter itself... yikes

For landscape uses I'd need 4 filters for the lens. It's why I sold my Sigma 12-24. I loved the lens, but if I can't use filters it doesn't get used.

You'd have thunk lens designers would have taken that in to consideration??

I know.
All the reviews are great for the lens, and it was going to be my first "New" lens for the K1.
However, not being able to cheaply use my existing Lee filters, and going with the larger ones and all the extra mounting hardware...no way.
Deal breaker.

Yep. Filters or at least ND grads are the only way to go with landscape photography.

Little help please, I'm having trouble understanding how this works with an APS-C camera such as K-3.
I know APS-C has a crop factor of 1.5 but something isn't clicking in my head.
WIll shots look like I'm using an APS-C lens at 22-45mm or 10-20mm?
This 15-30mm will give you the same field of view at 15mm as say the 15mm Limited. Same logic for the other focal lengths on APS-C: nothing changes

Since the K-1 has a larger sensor, it just sees more of the image circle at 15mm, which results in a wider field of view compared to APS-C.

I guess they put more weight into having next to no distortion and near perfect image quality. If you truly must have the best available to you to get the best shot possible it is an investment you would happily pay. Otherwise you chose a lens compromise plus filters. I guess it allows people to make choices for themselves. But it is becoming more common on high end lenses. The Sigma Art 20mm f1.4 also has a bulbous front element and is only 20mm.

For me personally it isn't worth it as this and my 24-70mm are my least used Nikon lenses.

Pentax should have made their own DFA 18mm f/2.8, with 82mm filter support.

This lens is tempting because it's f2.8 I really would like to see some night time comparison shot at 14mm with pentax 14mm f2.8, samyang 14mm f2.8 and pentax 15-30.
