Little help please, I'm having trouble understanding how this works with an APS-C camera such as K-3.
I know APS-C has a crop factor of 1.5 but something isn't clicking in my head.
WIll shots look like I'm using an APS-C lens at 22-45mm or 10-20mm?

Field of view for the 15-30 on FF will have the same field of view as a 10-20 on APS-C. Or, if you use the 15-30 on an APS-C sensor, it will have the equivalent field of view as a 22-45 would on a FF sensor.

These were supposed to ship with or a little later than the K-1. I hope this means that B&H has the K-1s this week too.

Neither! You do not need to worry about how anything looks like on full frame. If you take one lens and mount it on an APS-C camera the field of view will be different than from what you would get on a FF camera. This is because of the sensor size and has nothing to do with the lens itself.

A 15-30 mm lens is a 15-30 mm lens, full stop. If you put it on your APS-C and set it to 30 mm it will look like any APS-C lens you have at 30 mm. If you only work on FF you do not need to worry how anything would look like on FF.

Has the community fully confused you yet?

15-30mm is 15-30mm but will have the view of 22.5ish-45 on crop body.

crop 10-20mm looks like FF 15-30 if you want the same view..

jrpower10 explained it, but I like yours better mee. Thanks. I can't believe they made this fantastic lens with no filter threads though

Look at that huge bulb they call the front element! A flat filter wouldn't work on it.

The situation is the same with many other super-wide angle lenses - even the best of them. For example, look at the Nikon 14-24 and the Canon 11-24.

Neither. If you only shoot with a crop camera then please forget you ever heard of 'crop factor'. This lens will look just like a 15-30 does on your crop camera. The 15mm end will be exactly the same as any other 15mm lens and the 30mm end will be exactly the same as any other 30mm lens.

If you have a FF digital or shoot 35mm film and switch back and forth then you need to be concerned about crop factor, otherwise forget you ever heard of it.

I think that is precisely why we should never forget about the crop factor..

A 15mm FF lens is still 15mm on crop but the view is quite different when comparing formats... to get that same view one would need a 10mm lens on crop. And we're more interested in the field of view than the numbers on the lens.

Spot on mee, on an APS-C camera this 15-30 produces wide angle shots instead of ultra wide angle shots, which is I think what the poster wants to know. No need for people to complicate it with technicalities!

I think by trying to explain all this to someone who has only ever shot on a crop camera we just confuse the heck out of them. Now I am assuming that the OP has only used APS-C based on his/her question. I could be wrong. Speaking for myself I can say I have really only experience with APS-C. My film experience was so long ago it really is forgotten. So for me, and anyone else who has only APS-C experience when everyone jumps in and tries to explain crop versus FF and the different angles of view it just really confuses people to no gain.

If all you ever shoot is APS-C forget about the crop factor, no matter whether you put a FF capable lens or a crop only lens on you will still see the same angle of view, nothing changes. Now if you are switching formats back and forth or if you are considering the K-1, or another FF digital then yes you need to understand the "crop factor" thingy.

So to answer the OPs question: How will this work on the K-3? Just like any other lens you have. Nothing changes just because this lens is capable of being used on a FF camera. Put the DFA 15-30 on your K-3, set it to 16mm and the angle of view will be identical to the DA*16-50 or the DA 16-85 @16mm.

Got the 18-55mm kit lens? Similar, but you get that big extra 3mm at the wide end - that's a lot as a percentage.

If you have the DA15, that's the field of view.

I think so too.. If you're looking at shots by the 15-30 with a K-1 and are wondering how to get those same type shots (same wideness) on the K-3, you'll want a 10-20. 15 isn't 15 in this regard.. and I think a couple of the other members here are really making the issue confusing. It doesn't matter if all you use is a K-3 because if your comparison are shots online of a K-1 in FF mode, the crop factor matters.
