K-1 + 20-40 lim perfect combination for street photography?

After looking at PENTAX K-1 Laboratory | PENTAX K-1 Special site | RICOH IMAGING I started to think that this lens and K-1 is perfect combination for street photography. Lens is small, light, robust, water resistant and retro looking( reminds me Soviet lenses) so it can be discreet. It's focal length range is ideal for street. Question is how is IQ on k-1.

IDK- the 20-40mm is really far from covering the FF image circle at certain focal lengths and focus settings. The F 35-70mm would probably be better, and also more discreet!

Street is more widere than 35mm, but yes why not

It would be fine in crop mode. In FF in the picture supplied, I see some definite vignetting.

I would be tempted to use the smallest body I could get away with for street photography. I take the point about focal length, though - the one time I've tried this style of photography I had a 21 and a 40 Limited that covered most of my needs, and the zoom would have replaced them both nicely. In the end, though, I liked the compactness and unobtrusiveness the primes gave me, and it's nice to keep that f/2.8 at 40mm.

Perhaps the FA20-35 is a good choice if you can find one? I know you sacrifice WR with it, but at least we know it's full-frame.

DA 20-40mm really seems like a pretty good lens, but it is made for APSC. So if you can deal with dark edges at certain focal length/focus distances, go for it. You can shoot in FF mode and do custom crops in post to wring the most out of the lens. Some vignetting can even be considered artistic in this genre
But I think we will get some more lenses in the following months. The 15-30mm might be great, but it is bigger and more obtrusive. Small lenses are great for street, as they are not as threatening.

exactly my point thats it’s small and hard vignetting only at 20mm

For Street I use my Ricoh GR in fixed focus at f8. This this is a Beast when it comes to street photography- anyway. I think the SMC-A 28mm 2.8 would be perfect if you want to use a big body for shooting in the street. Use the hyperfocal or f8 and everything from 2-7meter is in focus. That would be a cool setup I think! The GR is 18mm something on APSC so you end up on a 28mm.
(GR to me is perfect becaus she shouts with every snap: I am here to play. I do not harm...! Whereas the K-1 shouts hey I am a professional I take your photo and do something professional with it (fear of big camera bodies). That's my personal opinion)

The FA35/2.0 and FA28/2.8 are both great little lenses. First still available new, the second is somewhat hard to find.

The FA20-35/4.0 is nice and light, but quite hard to find. Slow, but with today's crazy sensor speeds, that probably doesn't matter.

I have the FA20-35, F28, FA31 and FA43. I reckon any of them would be a better street shooting option on full frame than the DA20-40.

The 28 and 43 in particular should make a very capable and super compact two lens kit.

I'm not sure I'd use an FA31. Great lens, Pentax's best, but that great hooded snout sticking out at people might cause nervousness. The shorter and lower-profile the lens, the better; people aren't going to get the uncomfortable feeling that something's pointed at them.

99% of the 'street' shots I took in Melbourne were of sidewalk performers (who in my opinion are fair game) and seagulls (who neither know nor care).
