Originally posted by Schraubstock For what it is worth, I have not seen anywhere the Pentax FA 24-90 1:3.5-4.5 IF AL mentioned. It is a pretty rare lens and when you find one it costs a bundle. The optics are very good and so is IQ, shame only it is extremely flimsily and poorly build. It literally rattles when you pick it up, it is that loose in the barrels. It doesn't seem to harm the IQ though. I have got one and have just tested it with the K-1. For that I used the Metz 64 AF -1, which by the way works faultlessly with the K-1.

I love my FA 24-90, great IQ and a great FL range for a walk-around zoom. I was quietly resenting your comment that this lens rattles when you pick it up, so I shook mine to disprove this foul allegation. However, my copy also rattles when handled. However, I must insist that it does not necessarily rattle when you are only picking it up; with my copy you actually need to shake it gently in order to obtain the rattling sound. I also notice that when the lens has a fast telephoto zooming feature--if it is set at 24mm, you can quickly zoom to 90mm simply by pointing it downward as it unwinds itself.
I hardly ever hear references to this lens, although the Forum has favorable reviews. With the sparse references to this lens, it is a little surprising that it has held its value so well.
Couple of shots attached using on-board flash.
