I like the Screwdrive sound now

I can't really describe it, but I think the screw drive sound on the K-1 overall sounds a lot better than previous Pentax cameras. It sounds more robust and refined rather than herky jerky.

I know where you're going with that one.

Mind you, I have the FA28-90, plastic not-so-fantastic, and when my K-5 focuses that thing you can really tell; it's almost trying to climb off the mount with the torque generated (and no significant weight in the lens to counteract that). I'm half afraid the torque from the K-1's screwdrive motor will tear it to pieces, LOL. One day in the moderate to distant future I'll let you know if that happens.

This psychological response looks to me like it might be a case of what is commonly known as "Stockholm syndrome".

Funny, I actually like the screw drive sound less on the K-1 than on my K-3. Not sure why but maybe because the K-1 feels so advanced by comparison and the shutter sounds so much better, that the mechanical photography sounds of yesteryear sound more jarring and out of place while using it.

It's definitely quieter and possibly even faster than on the K-3. Oh the advantages of a larger body

The screw-drive is *A LOT* quieter than it was on the K-5 IIs, that's for sure. Sometimes it would sound like a dentist's drill, especially if it had to take a ride along the whole focus throw. A full ride on the K-1 is much, much quieter and faster, but I haven't measured.

Sweet and smarmy! I loved the one on the K-5 II, which had a cool and throaty "whoosh" but I think I like this one better. It's more subtle and shorter but it's very nice!

What a bunch of nerds we are...talking about how the shutter sounds...

Which was the Pentax camera whose shutter click was likened by one forum member to the sound of a hamster sneezing? I think it was one of the later AF film bodies, but I can't remember.

XD no! DA40 won't be torn apart by K1 but it will be insanely fast..it's fast on ks2/k3 and if k1 has faster motor...😈

Not the DA40 - that one will be fine. It's the FA 28-90 I was jokingly suggesting would be ripped apart!

I think the nerdiness lies not in the topic itself but in the the words chosen to describe the sounds.. description is leaving nederland and advancing on poetry..

It's so heartening to know there's a community around the world reveling in a new, sweet and swarmy, robust screwdrive sound on a full-frame on the first Saturday in May...
