Thanks for the compliments on the hockey photos, everyone!

If anyone wants, I can change the title of this thread (or create a new one) to a general discussion thread dedicated to using the K-1 for sports.

Whats everyone think?

The more images I see shot with the K1, like these fine examples, the more I think Pentax have got a real winner here.

Cropped two photos from the race yesterday. Important to note that the single dog photo had focus acquired while the dog was running past two tents, with the space of another tent between them where the photo was taken - the camera acquired focus on the dog before the first tent, would have lost it as it ran behind the tent, and then reacquired focus in the short moment the dog was visible again before going out of site again as it ran behind the second tent. The dog was running in excess of 30mph at this time.

Love the look of the hockey photos at these high ISOs. I shoot a lot of sports with a K5iis, and indoors, many times I need to be at ISO 6400. While I don't mind the noise too much, it's the lack of punch/sharpness/contrast that bothers me about the photos. I'm very happy with what I've seen from the K-1 regarding high ISO. My big hesitation with the K-1 for sports though is the 4.4 fps rate. For some sports it not so much of a problem, but for others it's very limiting. Baseball is a good example. When photographing batters, having the ball in frame is really important. 4.4 fps isn't usable for that, you would just have to time one shot correctly.

I would love to have the title changed to make this a more general sports thread for the K-1, or just have another one started for that purpose.

Old enough here to remember when Pittsburg played in the AHL and then played against the then AHL powerhouse Rochester Americans. When the NHL was only 6 teams, the play at the AHL level was also very good

Nice shots and the camera did it's jobs. I have had my K1 for a little over a week and loving it more and more. It has to be the best full frame deal on the planet right now.
