It's evolved into a two way street though. Chrysler could change the bolt pattern on it's wheels every year if it wanted to, but it doesn't. It likes third party rim and tyre support, and it's customers do too.
There's a fundamental difference between changing the stud pattern on the hub and changing, well, nothing on the mount.

But for discussion, suppose for years Chrysler had published a spec. sheet stating minimum dimensions of the wheel wells along with the stud pattern. For design reasons Chrysler always exceeded those clearance tolerances when designing their Jeep bodies. Certain wheel and tire manufacturers were able to achieve a competitive advantage by buying Jeeps and reverse engineering to make less expensive - and popular - wheels and tires.

Then Chrysler changed their body design, keeping it within their published spec., and several of those classic old wheels and tires just barely grazed the wheel openings if used on the new vehicle. Worse yet, any Dealer stock of new wheel and tire sets became suddenly questionable.

Meanwhile other manufacturers had licensed the design standard for years, so that both their new and legacy wheel and tire sets were fully compatible with the new body design.

Is Chrysler responsible for not designing their new Jeep body to accommodate those old wheels and tires?

Really? It sounded as though they could remount any of their modern lenses as K-Mount for a fee.

Their service states:

All lenses from SIGMA’s new three product lines (Art, Contemporary, Sports) will qualify for this paid “Mount Conversion Service”. It enables customers to convert the mount of their current lenses, and we will change the relevant parts for a different mount and its internal core system accordingly.

Interchangeable lenses for SLR / DSLR cameras (DC / DG lens) are eligible for conversion to the following mount system.
SIGMA, SONY, NIKON, PENTAX, CANON

As a portability field guy, actually one of the guys Pentax design their camera systems for, at this point I feel both my Sigma lenses were mistakes. I love the images, but the size is in the end prohibitive. Putting my Sigma 70 macro and Sigma 8-16 in the same bag is a weight and volume nightmare. And I only bought the 70 because my wife already had the Tamron 90 that I can use most of the time and 70 is further from 90 than 100 is. It's interesting to see so many people who love their Sigma lenses. More power to me. But as lenses to use in the field, they lack portability. At least mine do. The long range plan is I sell both of them.
I feel much the same as you in regards to Sigma. I own only one Sigma, the 70mm DG Macro. On paper, it's the best
macro of the five I own: arguably the sharpest and the only one I own that does 1:1. However, I hate the barrel grip, I hate
the feel of the manual focus and I hate the bulk. Indeed, the Sigma gets the least frequent use of any of my macro lenses.
It may be the best performer on spec, but it is the worst(*) performer in terms of handling and sheer joy of use.

(*)In all fairness, my Alpa 40mm/3.5 Makro is also little used because of ergonomics. Its aperture ring is wafer thin,
the base is narrow and thus wobbly in the m42 adapter and the focus is stiff, though the latter would probably improve
with a CLA.

Nuh, this has been discussed before, Kvetcha.

They can of course only convert a lens where there is already a Sigma version of it.

I totally agree! To the best of my knowledge, Sigma has not released a new K-mount lens since the K-1 was introduced. All of their current lenses fit and function on the K-3 II and all previous Pentax bodies just fine. Us Sigma owners have no basis for being unhappy. Now, if Sigma introduces a new lens in a K-mount, and it does not work on a K-1, then I can understand the anger. It's nobodies 'fault'. Give Sigma some time to figure out what's going on and give them a chance to modify their firmware. On the physical rubbing, there is nothing that can be done about that. It is what it is. When you purchased that Sigma lens, it fit just fine on your Pentax body, right? I'd have to check my paperwork, but I don't recall Sigma saying that any of their lenses are guaranteed to fit and function on all future Pentax bodies. Don't think the lawyers would ever let them say that.

So, really, the issue that Sigma brought up is something that we shouldn't really worry about, right? There's just a chance that the lenses listed in their announcement might leave a small, negligible scratch on the camera's body, right? Also, you have to be careful when selecting the appropriate crop mode for the lens that you mount, right?

Would anyone let me know if there's something that I should actually be worried about? I might've missed something while going through this thread...

So the cutout that's on the K-1 isn't sufficient for Sigma lenses? Or is it in the wrong place for Sigma lenses? Perhaps Sigma didn't follow specs? Is that the scratch (above the cutout) on the photo on the right?

At least Sigma is taking responsibility for the fixes and not laying it all on Ricoh.

I believe that Pentax have simply brought the rise of the camera body above the mount circle a little bit too close to the mount in the K-1 [as illustrated].. They cut it very fine this time, for some reason.

Looking at the cutaway there's plenty of room to get the Dremel to it.

Fit your lens, mark the interference zone, remove the lens and relieve the lens with a nail file. No big deal.

Meanwhile, GM and Toyota may keep their designs spacious and third party friendly, and parts are cheaper, so the next upgrade is a Toyota.

Or in this case, Canon or Nikon. Just look at how flat and roomy the 6D or D810 mount circle seems compared to the cramped and lumpy area around the K-1 mount ...
