K-1 Extended Warranty option available

After further investigation, the extended warranty does cover the K-1.

This is the warranty in question:
Pentax Extended Warranty for Advanced ADVWARRANTY-ADVILC B&H

I attempted to purchase the 2-year warranty extension to accompany my K-1, but online specifications were not specific. i called Ricoh in Denver (not Customer Service) and was told there is no K-1 Extended Warranty offered in USA, and no plan at this time to offer an Extended Warranty for the K-1.

The Extended Warranty for Advanced Cameras ($110) is for K-3 and K-3ll only.

When I spoke with the reps at WPPI, they didn't even know that the $19 extended warranty had existed for years. So let me do a little bit more digging on this

I'd still expect it to be valid. If not, Square Trade and other third-party warranties are similarly-priced.

They're supposed to call me later this week.
If they do, throw them a curveball and ask about the $50 warranty, which is what should technically cover the K-3 and K-3 II since both have an MSRP under $1000

That makes no sense at all. Why would they not cover their flagship camera?

Yes, do that. It has been my understanding that is the product that applies to those two cameras. I wonder what the vendors (Adorama and B&H, among others) say?

Mine, too. K-1 is more than $1,000, so I figured . . .

They say, "I don't know. Maybe try Ricoh Customer Service." *

* I know I'm poking the nest but I actually bought the warranty card and had to cancel the order. My local B&M Dealer, where I bought the camera, didn't know about the Extended Warranty at all - on K-3II - or about the Advantage Program for 645z.

Maybe the K-1 is going to be covered by the Advantage Program?

Whatever they decide, I hope they make an accommodation for early adopters, given the historical 30-days-from-purchase window to buy the warranty card.

The Advantage Program makes accommodations for purchases of the 645Z prior to the launching of the Advantage Program. They could make a similar accommodation that if you purchased the K-1 before such and such a date register before so and so date:
QuoteQuote:
*Current owners of PENTAX 645Z cameras purchased prior to May 1, 2016 can buy the Advantage Program if they register on or before July 1, 2016."
Advantage Program - Platinum | Ricoh Imaging
Advantage Program - Gold | Ricoh Imaging

I sent Ricoh a message through their website form. Zero response. I was asking about warranties, etc.

Doesn't inspire much confidence. If I get the opportunity, and a good price, I'm just gonna buy gray market since their warranty support seems to be nil. Or maybe just use my credit card warranty: it's a pain to deal with but at least THEY get back to me.

For USA customers, I hope the third party warranties find a way to bypass Precision Camera. Precision has screwed up warranty lens repairs on me twice.

This is news is a bummer. I ordered two of the warranties from B&H for K-1s. One arrived today and the other is on back order. I bought one of the K-1s locally last week, but the other was a pre-order from B&H back in March. Since I paid for the K-1 form B&H via PayPal the purchase date is in March and the 30-day window for buying another vendor's warranty has closed. If it turns out to be correct that the warranty will not cover the K-1 I will have to cancel the one that is back ordered and return the one that has already been delivered. Heading over to the ask B&H forum to ask for clarification.
