There is no way I can afford Pentax 70-200 any time soon. )))
I have the Tamron and for the quality it delivers, it is a bargain. I cannot imagine the Pentax being any sharper. I have shot Canon and Nikon 70-200 class lenses and this Tamron is right up there in quality at almost 1/3 the price. I got mine about 6 months ago just in case Tamron decided to stop production on it.
It seems to focus faster with K1 and the focusing noise is not that big of a deal. It is a little soft at 2.8 (perhaps good for portraits) however, from f3.5 on it is tack sharp. It is a winner regardless of the price. But when you consider the price, it is my best bargain purchase ever.
