Pentax K-1 and HD 150-450mm D-FA combination

Hi

I start a new thread to showpiece only the K-1 and 150-450mm combination and if any of you contemplate buying into this gear here then is a chance to quickly look up what you can expect.

For all those who are bird shooters (which I am not) I think this combination could possibly be the ultimate setup. The K-1 makes shooting with a tripod not a high priority. The reason simply is, the K-1's shake reduction is working incredibly well.

To start off and reinforce this claim I attach three test pictures which I have taken freehand. Check the EXIF to see details. All pictures are without any PP applied except the last one which received exposure correction and a light amount of sharpening using FocalBlade software. Again, don't forget these are shot hand held !

For those who already have bought into this combination, please add your pictures so others can review the possibilities.

Cheers

I much prefer looking at birds than air-conditioning systems.
Just saying.

Oh wow. Just... wow.

I hate to say this in a K-1 thread, but if they can put this SR system with this performance behind a K-3ii sensor in a K3-ii sized package, the wildlife shooters are going to be all over it.

Maybe this should become a handheld K-1/150-450 thread? It's rapidly evolving that way.

Good idea, why not, lets do it. After all tripod generated pictures don't have anything better to offer in most cases. It also offers a certain challenge.

(And as a side benefit we'll get to know who, through clean living, have retained a steady hand. )

I agree, and not only those that fly through the air.

Clean living? Ha! Better living through chemistry.

I remember once I had to write a medical clearance letter for a competitive pistol shooter who had to take beta blockers for a medical condition. Ordinarily they are banned for handgun sports because they suppress hand tremor and can be misused to give an unfair advantage.

Routine images of fairly drab waterfowl. K1 + 15~450, both probably @ or near 450mm. (not hand held - I would never use such a long lens hand-held, have missed/lost too many images that way going back to the film era. A monopod at the very least)

I was going to post a shot but I remembered I was using my foot to support the lens at the time.

Could not get much better than this. Hand held I presume ?

I am a bit mystified though. The tips of the wings are a bit soft but at f/7 and 1/1000 this shouldn't be the case. It should not be a matter of DOF either because the feet of the bird are quite crisp. Can only be the speed then.

Cheers and thanks for posting
