This is what is does in crop mode...

Maybe I'm just a bit weird, but I kind of like the version with the circle more, it's almost like the car is driving into a tunnel.

Going in what you see with the hood deployed, it seems to me you could make stiff card or plastic cut-outs to give a funky framing effect in uncropped mode, then add some decorative appearances in post. But for day to day use, I'd be tempted to go with crop unless I had a panorama I was happy to trim down in post or I really needed to see everything.

That said, I don't envision ever using crop mode unless for some reason I need the extra FPS.
Without the crop mode I would not own a K1. So far I have used it almost exclusively with my Bigma 50-500...and it is a FF lens. For my kind of shooting, which is mostly wildlife, it is wonderful. I've always been a rabid cropper and the K1 saves me time and makes composition much easier.

You can't imagine my delight when I found that nice crop frame light up in the viewfinder in bright red the first time I achieved focus....which by the way is fast and sure with the Bigma on the K1, unlike any other body I have ever owned.

For landscape, people and many other scenes I would prefer FF, but for what I do most currently, the crop mode is heaven!

I think every shot here is in crop mode...

Less MP is also faster to process and uses less card space.........card space is not a problem, but my older computer is pretty slow with the huge FF files. I'm not printing much of anything and if I do it is 5x7, so the files are plenty large for that. Most of my shots are just for web posting, and downsized anyhow.....

Adam...be nice to the Crop Mode.....it is wonderful for some of us....and squirrels love it!

Best Regards!

I can afford the K1 but not the lenses which leads to my question. When using my crop lenses, the FF will go into 16MP mode. But, is the NR as good at 16 as it is at 36, i.e., FF mode?

It's the same sensor, so the image characteristics will be identical, apart from the obvious DOF differences in crop.

Well I wish I'd had a K-1 this afternoon to help me take some nice shots with my DA* 300 of birds play-fighting (pre-mating action!) in the garden. Try as I might, I just couldn't react fast enough with the K-3 to keep them in the frame and once they'd left the frame, I had no idea where they were! Full frame viewfinder is what I needed, in whatever mode and with everything visible... and perhaps a faster focussing camera-lens combo of course. I'd probably have used crop mode to get the faster burst rate.

Have no fear, if I eventually succeed, I will be sure to post the pics in the K-1 Camera Porn thread.

Um no. This is not for porn taken with the K-1. It is for those salivating unnaturally OVER the K-1.

Good question! Is the camera smart enough to not meter the full frame when a DA-series lens is mounted and auto crop is overriden?

Thanks for posting those. That's exactly like the results I've gotten in the past when slapping the DA15 on a couple of my film bodies.
